I've been wanting to upgrade to this new forum software for some time, the recent outage has moved our time table up.

Our service provider has gone offline, and taken many sites with him. I feel compelled to put the Authentic-Campaigner site on a more stable server. This will cost me more, but actually that was the whole purpose of the shirt sales (that and raising money for preservation). We're on our own now.

Hopefully our former service provider will re-emerge, at least long enough to get us copies of the old forum database... I'd really hate to lose 3 years of posts.

Please reregister here and we hope to get the rest of the website and and forum features back online shortly.

There are a lot of changes on this new forum software, we'll explain those soon.

Regards,
Paul Calloway
Authentic-Campaigner.com (incidentally that URL doesnt work as of yet)

Paul

Nice job. I hope you can retrieve all the stuff that was on the old forum.

Have to get those event listings up and running soon.

Paul:

Congratulations on the decision to switch over to the new software. I like what I see so far - very nice and user-friendly. I look forward to the return of the history and applaud the change.

New forum looks great! It seems to have more options. I noticed there was no "Camp of Instruction" are these questions now to be posted in the Authenticity Discusion?

Oops, just an oversight. Trying to get a lot of things online all at once. ;) It's there now.

Paul:

You might want to post the rules - I note that you are already getting some posts that are not signed with full name, etc.

Good luck on the new site. It's become a cultural icon for this end of the hobby.

The new discussion board looks great and it seems pretty easy to use. However, I do have a question about posting. Will a spell check be added? Or did I miss this feature?

I know you guys are still trying to bring everything back up to speed, but will there be a section in the profile page to add your unit/mess name?

Thanks guys,

paulcalloway

Will a spell check be added?
Well I hope so. The problem seems to be that the company that used to provide this service has ceased offering it. Commercial spell check programs run about $100... right now I'm looking for a so-called hack. Installing hacks isn't exactly my forte though so it may take a few days.

The old forum had it as an oversight by vBulletin. It should have been removed from the admin control panel and had not been.

...will there be a section in the profile page to add your unit/mess name?
Yes, in fact I've been meaning to do that and it's done now. Check your profile options in your User CP (cp = control panel) to edit it.

Paul,
Are we looking at a reasonable chance that we will be able to restore all of the archived files, or is this more of a 50/50% proposition. I would be truely saddened if we were to loose them completely, as would others, I'm sure. Sorry to hear that the former webhost wasn't all that we had hoped for.

Oh, I think we'll definately get the back. I'd say 90-95% chance. Glenn may be distracted but he's not a scum-bag. It's just a matter of when. We'll need to limp along for a few days or maybe a week until we can get in touch with Glenn.

As I mentioned, a certified letter will go out on Monday. We'll track him down. I'm not overly concerned about it yet.

By the way, I can't seem to be able to upload my profile picture to the member profile page. I reduced it to 100 X 100 pixels(=56kb), but receive an error message that there was a problem uploading the chosen picture. I know you have more important things on your plate to deal with right now, but I wanted you to have a heads up about this SNAFU. I'm sure that there will be a LOT more growing pains to follow ;) Cheers.

I'm fairly certain it has to be 80x80.

Paul,

For some reason I'm not receiving any e-mails notifying new replies from this thead.

I marked off "Instant E-mail Notification" in the "Message & Notification" section of my edit options in my profile. Am I doing something wrong, or is this feature not working properly yet? Any body else in this thread having this problem?

Sorry for being such a pain.

Aaron, that may have something to do with our domain name not working as of yet. I'll take a look at this tonite. Heading out for a bit (been at this all day and the wifey is after me)....

Keep working with the software, guys. You're not being a pain at all... I need to know about these issues to have any chance of fixing them. :)

If anyone out there has coding experience, html/php etc... please sound off. Glenn has always done this in the past... I'm sort of flying blind here.

Welcome back, Paul and all. The only feature I miss from the old set up is the place where we could see all new posts together instead of going from area to area. Is the newer version going to have this or did I miss it somewhere?

I think what you're looking for is up there under the Quick Links menu. (To the left of "Log out", top right corner.) Click Quick Links a drop-down menu should display... I think the first option, New Posts is what you're looking for.

Just checking in to say it's good this thing is running again, and it's good that I finally figured out how to reregister and fight my way through to the point where I can post. If I can do it, anyone can -- kind of like Grant's captain for computers.....

At least the crash wasn't right before one of our events or in mid season.
So many people thought Paul pulled the plug because of a few arguments on the old threads, I didn't believe that because were always arguing!

Anyways, hope we fully recover, I will spread the word! :)

Thank's Paul, I finally pulled my head out of you know where, and got it to work. By the way, I'm pretty thrilled about this month's Bully Buy; I have one ordered and on the way.
