Tim Welch of LD Haning & Co. has graciously donated one of his English cartridge boxes to raise money for the SCCRR McRae papers acquisition.

From the website;

The "Thaxton" Box
This English box is a reproduction of the Thaxton/Jones box in the collections of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. Captain William Jones of the 2nd Wisconsin was wounded at Sharpsburg (Antietam), then transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps. It is believed he brought/sent this cartridge box home during this period. The box is typical of those that were being imported by both Federal and Confederate Governements.

You can see pictures of the reproduction next to the original at:

http://www.ldhaning.com/thaxton.html

We would like to auction is box the retails for $183.00.

The starting bid will be $150.00. Bids must be placed on this thread and be increased by a minimum of $10.00 per bid. I will list the bids and the highest bidder's user name on a timely basis in this post. Check the thread for the latest bid prior to placing yours.

Tim will ship the box after the auction is completed. We will accept bids through 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 15th EST.

If you are looking for a great reproduction of a unique box, this is your chance to get a great piece and help preserve the very important McRae papers. You can read about the SCCRR's efforts at: http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9078

I look forward to the competition and thanks go to Tim for his exceptional donation.

Thanks Craig!

A very generous offer to say the least! Just as an aside, we're getting ready to post several more documents that folks should find very interesting. One focuses on pricing quotes from Samuel Isaacs regarding a "Soldier's Pattern Kit" which is a complete uniform and personal equipment set. It appears Huse was looking at purchasing these complete kits very early in the war and really shows his depth of knowledge of what an individual soldier would need in the field.

Many thanks to Tim Welch for his offer.
