Until yesterday I haven't had this problem but since then the forum won't let me log in nor remember me when I return. I can trick it by going to a forum, logging in, then clicking the AC Forums link at the top of the page. Then, I'm in until I close my browser. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I'll continue to work on the issue... not really sure what the problem is. I corrected the cookie path that was causing trouble for the majority of the users.

I didn't really make any changes yesterday that I can think of so I'm not sure why some computers are having trouble of keeping track of the cookies.

Hallo Kameraden!

I am perhaps, if not undoubtedly, the worst computer-skilled person since Ned Ludd...

But I wonder if this is an AOL customer problem? There is something about AOL's user recognition feature requiring too many digits (?) so that some web sites do not recognize an AOL "auto-sign in" user.

On one forum, I can open it and read it, but to post, I have to go thrrugh INTERNET EXPLORER.

Just a passing, and likely worthless thought...

I'm using AOL and I'm not having any problems what so ever.

Not using AOL here, just straight to the net via cable modem.

I seem to have this same problem (need to log in again each time I open the browser even if I click the "remember me" box) more often from a computer that is part of a networked system than from home where I have a direct modem link to the internet.

I also have this problem. I always click the remember me button but it never does. I am accessing from a home pc with cable modem and occasionally from work via dialup.

Or a quicky if you don't want to go to the link provided above.

1 Delete your cookies (there must be a bad one in there from logging on when the site was in limbo - if you don't know how to delete cookies follow the link.)

2 Log in again making sure to check "remember me."

FIXED! :)

I'm having problems too. Every time I click the Forums link at the top of the page to change forums, I have to sign back in. I tried clearing the cookies, but I still have the same problem.

I don't have that problem, just the remembering me part and its not an AOhelL problem as I don't use it.

But once logged in, I stay logged in.

Fritz - My suggestion to you is to remove the authentic-campaigner mailer from your block list. There's not a day that goes by that I don't get a returned email from AOL telling me:

... while talking to air-yj02.mail.aol.com.:
>>> RCPT To:<cptfritz@aol.com (cptfritz@aol.com)>
<<< 550 cptfritz IS NOT ACCEPTING MAIL FROM THIS SENDER
550 <cptfritz@aol.com (cptfritz@aol.com)>... User unknown

And thats been going on for months.

If after clearing cookies you're still having trouble staying logged in, it could be due to your security settings. You might try lessening them to see if thats the issue. It might also be your firewall, etc.

The AC site has to be able to place a cookie on your computer (a small file that identifies you as a returning user). If your computer is locked up so tight that it wont accept cookies, you cant stay logged in to the AC.

So really the problem isnt on our end if clearing cookies doesnt take care of it - its something to do with your security settings in all likelihood.

Paul,

I have a pard who asked me to email you to see if anyone else has been unable to log in at all since the site came back up. He can get on the board at home but is unable to do so at work. He tried logging in on 3 different computers in his office to no avail. He asked if his address might be blocked for some reason. As I have minimal computer knowledge I 'm not even sure I'm posing this question correctly. His email at work is jeff.thompson@tngarchitects.com. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like he's behind a firewall in his office thats preventing him from storing cookies on his machine. If he's at a small enough company and knows his IT people well enough, he could ask them to clear the AC - it might be locked out due to terms like hardcore that we use here frequently and with noble intent which have an altogether different meaning in the real word.

Some companies block access to "chat," and "shopping" sites in addition to those it considers "adult" or "gambling" related. Now, we all know this place is about much more than "chat," but nevertheless, it could be blocked for that reason. No "ebay" or "ezboard" at work for moi, thanks to:

finally, if I may so, blocking sites he considers 'productivity stealers' is every employers right -- even though it's frustrating to those who simply wish to catch-up with the buzz during lunch or authorized breaks.
