Perryville happens every year no matter what. Any authentic groups going? Probably. Ask this question next spring.

Mike,

It is an annual event, so it probably will happen next year. You might consider contacting the park with your question: Perryville@ky.gov

Also, don't forget to sign your posts. It's one of the forum rules.

The big KY event next year will be the NSA event at Mill Springs, KY (Jan 21, 1862 battle). The folks at Mill Springs moved their event to 27-29 Sept 2007 so as not to interfere with the smaller but annual Perryville event.

Mike,

Not to beat the subject to death here, but I noted the California location in your profile. The Perryville site IS a grand battlefield--but realize that in the 07 year that the annual event will be a small regional event, with even folks who are committed to the site somewhat constrained in their choices by the date and location proximity of the Mill Springs event, which will be a good bit larger.

In other words, if you are coming specifically to see Perryville, come on. If you are coming because you think you are coming to a large event with lots of troops and sulters--nope, probably not.

Not to be a stick in the mud, but why not skip the mainstream events all together and hit one of the better quality events in that area. Money AND time better spent in my opinion.

I'm sure the NSA will make that one a blast :sarcastic

After Corinth I'm swearing these things off for a while.

The only reason that I would show up would be to benefit whatever site is left at Mill Springs and to make a valid contribution to education. Something about organizations that skip authentic preservation efforts to drill really puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm right there with ya, man.

My comment was just to answer that there will not be a conflict with Perryville...especially as this is their 145th. You guys need to relax a little and not consider every post about schedules as an endorsement - was certainly not my intent. Not everybody has an agenda. Personally, I am going to Chickamauga and Fredericksburg.

I appreciate that Doug, but there's no justification needed.

I was simply speaking my mind because the subject came up.

Now, if the administrators and moderators feel my post was provoking argument, by all means, delete it.

But, I don't think I'm alone in my perception. If I am, that would be sad.

No worries - just wanted to be clear. You are not alone.

There is an agreement between the Perryville Battlefield folks and the NSA that the '07 Perryville event will be a living-history oriented event with small numbers as to not compete with the NSA's efforts at Mill Springs, which take place just prior to the Perryville anniversary. This was negotiated as part of the NSA's suppport of this past Perryville event.

Personally, I am looking forward to Mill Springs- mainstream or not.:( I haven’t been for an event since ’98 with the exception of one living history. Mill Springs/ Nancy KY has come a long way with preservation and could certainly use support in 2007. I hear that the museum dedication earlier this month was a success!

:p Miss Liz--I've learned long ago that the continum is a long one, and perspective is everything. Some of the same fellers who who'll say 'mainstream' were quite happy strolling around the little village at Perryville, and that Tavern was pretty full of known hardcores. We'll make a different effort at Mill Springs--but the same amount of thought and research will go into it.

One man's mainstream event is another man's hardcore event. And, if I sit back and just listen (something dreadfully hard for me:rolleyes: ) I'll often hear the perfectly good and valid reasons that each group had for choosing to do X, while another group has perfectly good and valid reasons for choosing to do Y. And likely both will throw off on each other, neither one understanding the other's perfectly good and valid reasons.

And if I'm very lucky, I'll do the same thing I did in 06 with Shaker Village and Perryville--drive to Mill Springs and fly up for Perryville. :tounge_sm

Patrick, I agree with your statement, and that is what we want to do, however, being that we live in FREAK A Fornia, we also want to get our War gasm's in and visit some fields we haven't seen yet....So we are trying to balance a good event with what area we want to tour also. I haven't seen sharpsburg nor Perryville area.

The 145th Annivesary of the Battle of Perryville Commemoration will be held on October 6 and 7, 2007.

This will be a much smaller event than the National 2006 event, however, we are crafting a quality event with high authenticity standards. We will be featuring the "School of the Battalion" which will include a full ration program, etc. There will be two full battles on Saturday as well as Sunday and several other authentic venues in which to participate.

The Living History Village will concentrate on the aftermath of the battle at Perryville by recreating the town of Harrodsburg, Kentucky immediatly after the battle.

We have had great success with our programs over the last two years and we hope to raise the bar even higher this year. This will be an event worth attending.

Our website should be fully functional by January 1 and there will be several adds and information in all the CW publications in their January/Feb. issues. The Civil War Historian will have a feature on Perryville in its March/April addition.

If you have any immediate questions regarding the event please do not hesitate to personally contact me or give the park a call.

Thanks for your interests and we hope to see you there.

Hello All,
Just been in a meeting with the park.
Besides the usual reenactment stuff..... There will be an unscripted tactical on the new property crossing Doctors Creek on Saturday morning - this property is atleast 100 acres and we can use as much of it as we want. This is a non-spectator battle.
Additionally, mounted troops will be able to go on a ride on the new 100 acres on Sunday morning as well.
It will be a much smaller event than last year, but it is sure to be quality. There are some hoops to jump through if you want to attend.
The park is also supplying a ration program for the military living history and that is shaping up to be top notch as well.
Get registered if your not. They are not allowing walk ons this year.
Check out the website or call the park for information.
Your Pard,
Chad Greene

Mr. Ventura,
Perryville Battlefield entered into no agreement with the NSA or Mill Springs regarding either event. I do not know where this infomation is coming from but it is incorrect.
There was no negotiation between the NSA and Perryville regarding this subject at all. The staff at Perryville Battlefield entered into no agreement with you and as far as I can recall and have checked all the communications between you and park this was never mentioned at all.

Thank You,
