A quick update:
I wanted to let you guys know that we'll be doing a picket post for this living history across a creek there on the park.
The Hard Case Boys and fellow ruffians will be hosting the Federal platoon. (Officer TBA)
Pat Landrum and his crew of Southern men will be hosting the Confederate platoon.
More information and registration information will be posted shortly. Any funds raised will go to the Friends of Raymond who are actively aquiring more parts of the battlefield.

So there is no competition between this effort and Pickett's Mill, the Confederate side of this event is only taking 20 registrants. Contact me at westernpicket63@yahoo.com for more information.

That's right. Like Pat said, there is no event competition here. There should be a good amount of locals to fill the ranks for both sides. The key for this event will be the living history aspect of this. We've got our events "for our eyes only." Well, this one is for theirs.
Don't let this scare anyone away who is willing to travel, we just don't want anyone to forget about Pickett's Mill.

Direct from the big bug himself.
Concept for this event is a US / CS picket post on both sides of the wooden bridge on the original battlefield. Some skirmishing / sharpshooting. Will be picketed about 100 yds apart. Water. straw, and outhouse near each picket post. Some materials - logs, limbs, and planks will be on both sites to reinforce the picket posts as desired.
Friday the high school will be out for short historical discussions if any one can arrive early. On Sat morning a 10 K run will use the trail, but they will be off site by 10 am. Expect a few (30 -40) visitors through Sat and Sunday.
Historically the picket post did not occur on this site - the Battle of Raymond did. However, 4 miles away on the same date -May 12, 1863 - on Snake Creek, the advance of Sherman's Corps did encounter reinforced pickets that stopped the advance for a day. This should be the scenario.

Update
The picket post areas have been cleaned up, firewood made available, etc.
The high school WILL NOT be coming out on Friday. Early arrivals expected Friday afternoon. Last minute site prep will be on-going Friday morning.
Registration will be on site. Asking $10 for Friends of Raymond (FOR). Please review their web site for historical information. They are working still to obtain the battlefield of the east side of Hwy 18.
Bring period shovels / axes to improve sites as desired.
On Sat morning a 10 K run will use the trail across bridge, but they will be off site by 10 am. Expect a few (30 -40) visitors through Sat and Sunday. This is the weekend of the Raymond Country Fair 3 miles away and most visitors will be coming from that event.
If you have questions about the site of FOR let me know.
