A main stream unit from that hails from the South Louisiana and Southwest Mississippi area (7th La.) is hosting the first "Battle of Baton Rouge" at the Rural Life museum and property in Baton Rouge, a top notch antebellum site.
My unit, the 16th Louisiana Infantry will attend as Federal and would like to solicit fellow authentics from the region to join us. While the event is mainstream, the SITE IS NOT ! Not to mention we make it better by attending and focusing on doing our best.
We did something very similar for the most recent Port Hudson, La. event and enjoyed a strong 30 plus man company, complete with great attitudes and good impressions.
The date's are September 29-30, 2007.
Any inquiries pertaining to the formation of this company, and desire to join us may be sent to me at boreguard@earthlink.net

Dennis Neal

Good luck, Dennis, You might have some problems with those dates. There's a living history at Chickamauga the weekend befor, and the NSA national event at Mills Springs that same weekend.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, yeah I know about the dates conflict with other events, but the 16th La is just participating not anything else.
Thanks again,

Good morning,
Would you be willing to post a link when and if it becomes available? I have wanted to visit the Rural Life museum for some time and believe this would be a unique opportunity even if the event is mainstream.
Thanks!

Thank you Mr. Erwin for posting the link.
I might also add a point which should've preceed my comment about the site NOT BEING MAINSTREAM and that is that it's very authentic in the way of an antebellum village during the period, complete with gravel streets, general store, doctors office, church, blacksmiths shop, large home, slave quarters, and more. Perfect site for holding something like the Battle of Baton Rouge.

I recommend this recently published book on the battle:
The Battle of Baton Rouge
Thomas H. Richey
2005
ISBN: 1-58939-770-3
VirtualBookworm.com Publishing
A good read with period maps & photos. Troop movements in the battle are indicated on current street maps of Baton Rouge, enabling you to travel today's city tracing the progression of the fight.

Originally I posted that the 16th La Inf was putting together a Federal Company, that's changed...
We are attending Confederate, and are still soliciting to those of you in the area and unable to attend the Chickamauga event.
The last weekend in September, in Baton Rouge, La. at the Rural Life Museum.
Please direct any inquiries about the formation of this company to boreguard@earthlink.net

Chickamauga is the weekend before the Battle of Baton Rouge, so you have my support as always.

Thanks Pat. Yea for clarification I meant to imply that if one couldn't make the Chickamagua event the weekend before, then maybe consider this as an opportunity to get in the field.
To all, not trying to compete with better events here, just letting fellow authentics know that a small gathering is taking place at this event.

So far we've got 30 rifles from units and messes of the Independant Rifles, Alamo Rifles, and the 16th Louisiana Infantry making up this company of authentics and progressives. Don't want to keep anybody from attending something better, however if schedule and locale only permits you to do something in South Louisiana on the weekend of the 28th thru 30th of September look us up.

I have always wondered why Baton Rouge had not had its own reenactment considering the significance of the battle and the number of reenactors in south La. Would like to attend and the museum appears to be good locale. Unfortunately headed for Mill Springs. Will you hold in 2008 ?

Roger, we're (the 16th La.) aren't the host for this event, however I do think this event will come again. One reason that B.R. hasn't happend before now is that Port Hudson kinda takes the place each March.
Where in Mississippi are you located ? I live in Brookhaven, MS. but am writing you from Gettysburg, Pa right now :)
Understand going to Mill Springs, this effort to pull an authentic company together for B.R. wasn't meant to try and compete, just take advantage of an opportunity.

Just a post to be sure that those of you who've been following this event and my posting understand that the Consolidated Authentic company will be Confederate and NOT Federal as the first post suggest.
Email any questions to boreguard@earthlink.net
Thank you

Hey mate, if school doesn't get too bad by then, I may be able to make it down from Arkansas. Possibly with more cannon fodder as well. Looks like a very cool place. Take it easy.

Pelican Civil War Lodge #1861 F&AM will be holding a called meeting at the Battle of Baton Rouge. I was in contact with LSU Rural Center yesterday and they assured me that we would have a place to hold lodge. They just wasn`t sure as of yesterday exactly where. I will check back the week before to see if a place has been chosen for us to meet. Worse case senario it will be announced at officers call on Saturday morning. Time will be announced then as well. Make sure you bring your current dues card. As a general rule the Master will open in the Master Mason Degree then bring it down to Entered Apprentice so that all may set in as well. If you have any questions feel free to email me direct at: wyoung003@centurytel.net.

Just another bump in an effort not to miss a brother authentic who may be in the region and able to attend this event. The stars are lining up to make this a good experience.

Dennis,
Sorry, was captured by the Federal Army near Hammond, LA. Treating the wounded, and hope to be exchanged soon. And like Mike, will be at OUTPOST, even if I have to carry Andrew Pequet.

Brethren,
Please remember Pelican Lodge will be holding Lodge Saturday evening. Lodge will be held in the garden per David Floyd. Make sure you bring you a chair. I`m not sure how many the museum will supply us with. One thing for sure though is we`re gonna have a good time.
