The 16th La. Inf. (www.16thlainf.com) has been the host of this yearly event for nearly 10 years, and although the event is mainstream, it's purpose is to promote and raise funds for a great historic site. See the web site at http://www.campmoore.com/
We are forming a consolidated company of authentics/progressives for this event. The impression is FEDERAL. The camp style is campaign, but same location all weekend. The purpose is to continue to build relationships with like minded reenactors and enjoy the benifits of being in a company of men who care to drill, learn, and appreciate the work that goes into making a good impression.
I'm not promoting this event as anything less than mainstream but am promoting the site as being one well worth supporting, and in the midst of that form a good strong company of like minded individuals.
The museum and grounds are staffed and supported by an all volunteer crew. The funds raised are used to operate the site and the event is the largest effort each year to do so.

Camp Moore is an extremely worthy cause and on top of that a very good site. For anyone looking for one more to do before the Winter months set it, this would be fun. The consolidated company at Port Hudson and Baton Rouge were well worth the travel.

Unfortunately a little bit of the "droopsy's" entered camp Saturday evening and forced an early exit for some.
Thanks for the compliments Tim, we really had a good group of guys. I wouldn't say that everyone was sporting the most authentic impression, however everyone camped campaign and the attitudes made up for lack of the level we all want things to be at in the way of impressions. I'm sure that all left with a desire to work toward that end.
Bully for consolidating and working to make things better.

Here's some initial information on Camp Moore, more to follow.
Camp Moore was the largest Confederate training camp in Louisiana and the only Confederate training camp still open to the public. The above is a copy of a lithograph done by Adrian Persac in 1861 and is the only known image of Camp Moore during the war. In the background may be seen the New Orleans, Jackson and Great Northern Railroad. The garrison flag floats proudly above the parade ground in the center. Men are seen in various stages of drill in the center, in the parade ground. Along the left or south border may be seen rows of tents in typical company street style. Visitors are seen in the foreground, which was a very common sight at Camp Moore. Visitors flocked from New Orleans and other places to see their sons and husbands. It was a pleasant 4-hour train ride from New Orleans. Not quite visible in this picture would have been the sutlers, restaurants and photographer, located in the right distance of the tree line, along Beaver Creek. The orientation of this picture is taken looking west from the interior of Camp Moore looking across the parade ground.

There will be a lodge held at this event. Special dispensation has been given to the Pelican Lodge #1861 by the Grand Lodge of the state of Louisiana to hold lodge.
So craftsmen assemble !

Dennis,
What are the dates for this event? I have a pretty full schedule through the end of the year with the Alamo Rifles, but I may be interested in attending,

What are the dates for this event?
John,
The bulletin board on the site website mention this:
The reenactment will be held, as always, the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving, on November 17th and 18th, 2007.
(Dennis, if these dates are incorrect, let me know.)

Dennis,
Well it will be good to have you on our side. I believe right now we are your only artillery support. It will be good to know we have good infantry with us. See you soon.

Charles & Dennis,
Thanks for the dates. Unfortunately, I'll be at a reenactment at Liendo Plantation in Heamstead, TX during those times. It is a mainstream event, but the Red River Battalion is usually in full force during that event. I'll also get to wear my 165th NY Zuoave Uniform. Take care and see you at Outpost,

Thanks Dennis for mentioning Pelican Lodge that weekend. The reenactment that weekend is truly a important weekend for their raising of monies. I was truly a pleasure to meet you and Patrick this past weekend in Baton Rouge. I am looking forward to seeing you fellows again. Patrick, you were sorely missed at the meeting that night, but it was good to meet your Dad. I am looking forward to setting in Lodge with you the weekend of Camp Moore.

Just a bump to say that the Camp Moore event is getting close, less than two weeks away now. The impression is Federal, the camp is campaign, the site is historic, the effort is worthy, and we make it better by being there and holding the line. If you're interested in falling in with an authentic/progressive group doing a Federal impression for the weekend email me at boreguard@earthlink.net
Also note previous post for details and site links.
Thanks

Word recieved from Brother Young earlier this week that we'll not be able to hold lodge due to family issue's keeping some from being able to attend the event. So, while we'll be unable to hold lodge, we'll probably have a very informal meeting of the brothers.

Less than a week away. If your in the area/region come consolidate with an authentic/progressive Federal company and help support a worthy site in doing so. Contact me, Dennis Neal, at boreguard@earthlink.net if interested.
