View Full Version : AC needs a by-line

I really like, "For the discriminating reenactor," but I'm afraid some people may get the wrong idea.

Anyone else have an idea for a by-line that we can use for the AC?

Maybe, <!--StartFragment --> It's the authenticity, stupid.

Stitch Nazi's are people too

Mr. Donovan- Welcome to the AC Forum. Please take a step backwards and reconsider why you are here, what you hope to accomplish, and the impact of your attempted humor. If you feel that you can contribute positively to this Forum, we look forward to your future posts.
Please consider this your first warning. Curt-Heinrich Schmidt, Moderator

PrettyBoy -
I'm beginning to get the distinct feeling that we need to change your name to StreamerBoyDonovan. Everything I've seen you post has screamed, "I'm a mainstreamer". That's all well and good, and we welcome folks interested in improving their impressions... but we don't welcome the mainstream mantra that they sometimes like to bring with them.

And incidentally, Cigars don't make good hand-warmers, but knitted wool mittens do.

Hallo Kameraden!

I do not think it is so much as a single name or title, as the "CW Community" exists in so many umbrella forms and levels in the first place- and few agree on the meanings and definitions of "labels."

I would think a "mission statement" as to what this Forum:

1. is about, (or is not about)
2. what it hopes to accomplish
3. and how it plans to go about achieving No. 1 and 2

would be of greater information and service to those looking for serious discussion, sharing of sources and resources, sharing and analyzing research, a place to give voice to academic/scholarly ideas and discussion, promoting individual learning, growth, and evolution, etc.

Curt -
I can dig it, and I agree about the mission statement.. but I still hope for a by-line... a one liner that I can put in italics somewhere.

How about: "Progressing the Civil War Impression"

You might replace "discriminating" with "discerning".

"It's all about the original soldiers" make that "original Americans"

or

"The quest for authenticity is a journey, not an endstate."

or

"partnering with you on the journey toward authenticity"

My contributions for what they are worth:

"When you want a little more out of reenacting"

"Food for your brain"

"An ongoing search for Truth"

"Where reenactors come to learn"

Wow!!! Our motto for the CWCivilian list is very close to that!! Great minds must think alike. I think Glenna Chirsten or Barbara Huffman came up with ours... "Accuracy is a process, not a final destination." The only problem with the "Its all about the original soliders" idea is that some civilians may think its a military only list. :wink_smil

Being the simplistic sort that I am, how about either:

"Because It's RIGHT, Dammit" or

"Period, Everyday, and Common"

Here's my two cents worth:

"It's all about the history"

"Because history matters"

"If it's not right, it's wrong"

and the ever popular

"Where historical accuracy is the name of the game".

I am creatively spent.

The tag line is the most important part of this site. It should be memorable and a phrase we can all rely on when confronting those who don't share our goals. Here are some suggestions:

"Authenticity; Just Do It!"

"History- You're In Good Hands With The Authentic-Campaigner"
"The Authentic-Campaigner- Turning On The Light"
"A-C- History Depends On You"
"It Takes A Little More To Be Authentic"
"Authenticity- Easy On The Eyes"
"Authentic-Campaigners- We Gave Peace A Chance"
"Authentic Campaigners March To A Historically Accurate Drum"
"All You Need Is Authenticity"
"Farbs Suck", well, maybe a little over the top?
"Take Time And Experience History"
"Authenticity Is Contagious"
"Wisdom Comes With Authenticity"
"An Authentic Book Is Seldom Dusty"
"Historicty Is The Only Way"
"Abstain From Farbs"
"Avoid Reality At All Costs, Reenact"
"Back Off Man!- I'm A Campaigner"
"Behind Every Great Reenactor Is His Ass In An Authentically Made Pair Of Trowsers"
"Friends Don't Let Friends Be Farbs"
"Other Than That Mrs. Lincoln, How Was The Play?"...Just had to throw that one in.
"Coarse Violence And War Is Our Mantra :tounge_sm "
"Authenticity-It Is Written"
"The A-C, God sent us to help the Farbs"
"Guns Are Power"
"Guns Don't Kill, Projectiles Do"
"Happines Is A Warm Authentic Musket"
"He Who Dies With The Most Canteens Wins"
"Authenticity- The Brief Interlude Between Farbdom And Eternity"
"Next Time You Wave, Use All Your Fingers"
"Pardon Me, But Do You Have Any Period Mustard?"
"Surrender Your Mind To Authenticity"
"Authenticity-This Is Your Brain, Farbdom- This Is Your Brain On Drugs"

And my personal favorite;

"Our Standards Set Standards" :wink_smil

I am reminded of a cartoon of Andy Capp shopping for a doormat. The salesman is showing Andy and wife, Flo, a "Welcome" mat. Andy asks, "Do you have one that says 'Bugger Off'?"

I am appalled; appalled, mind you, at the attitude expressed here :wink_smil . The next time we share an event, I shall require you to come to our campsite and sing off-key music with us while relieving you of all your worldly goods in a game of chuckaluck. :D

How bout (A WORK IN PROGRESS.... )

After all, we are all progressive here striving to improve our accuracy in becoming as close to the real 19th century solidier as possible , along with teaching and preserving our history.
