Has anyone heard of the Iverness Coats. I have seen pictures of them & seen where they have been in buisness since the early19th century. How popular were these coats in the civilian world during the war? I imagine the those coats made their way over here before & during the war.

Yes, but then I am from the border and live in Berwick upon Tweed (I'd say neither English or Scottish, but that is bound to upset both, we're Berwickers). I have one and use it for living history, both ACW and British 1860's. I know they were around, but I'd be interested to know how popular in the US too.

Last spring there was a discussion on Iverness Capes on the Sewing Academy forum. You can find it here. http://thesewingacademy.org/index.php?topic=628.0
