I would have to go with, early war, 2nd Rhodes Island, mainly because it is the most comfortable of all the uniforms, and I like the look of it. We always do early war at our own encampment, but rarely is it historically acurate for many others, so 90% of the time we do mid to late war.

I live in Lower Alabama, down near Spanish Fort, so naturaly I tend to lean more to the late war Confederate. In fact, the unit we portray wasn't even founded until late '63, and that was as a local home guard. In 1864, they were shiped down to Mobile, and re equipped and placed in garrison at Spanish Fort and Ft. Blakely

146th New York, in the Turco uniform, Gettysburg to early Overland Campaign. Probably my favorite; I admit that I really like the uniform- for cosmetic, comfort, and functional reasons.
5th New York, circa Manassas No. 2, when their uniforms were in a particulaly messy period with bits and peices of other kit in use; also same unit in the very early war, Big Bethel timeframe with the somewhat different uniform using a different style fez-cap and havelock.
Mid to late war western theater Federal, which I find more interesting than AoP/eastern theater.
Just did my first Confederate event a month ago, and while my impression (ANV mid war) is not yet totally refined, I must admit I enjoy it a lot more than I thought I might - I suppose I like having some more leeway for personalization ;)

I have had time to work on all of my impressions. I have gone from doing just any soldier at anytime to narrowing down a particular impressions.
I have worked on my mid-war ANV, late-war Army of Tennessee. Army of the Ohio is my current project,which is coming along quite well. I have decided at this time not to do anything with the AOP impression. The reason being is that when on the few occasions that I do journey across the big river, and head to the Eastern area of operations, I want to be a ANV soldier. Since I can protray a soldier from a unit from my home state. My civilian impression is growing. I have several clothing sets. My next big project is an Undertaker/Embalmer, have most of the clothes,but still working on my instruments. I am studying up on that impression. I am just dying to complete it.
Since I have been hanging around here, reading & doing reasearch, even using the search that is on this forum, ( hey you know that thing really works ) I am striving to improve all aspects, from gear, clothing, and knowledge, including my attitude. It doesn't cost much to do research, just time.

Early Western theater, Federal.
Its my first impression, and still in the works, as I am new to this yet. Personally, I started with the 50th Illionois to be the basis of my impression, as they participated in the battles I wished to partake in.

My impressions are wide and varied. I can do about any Federal Infantry impression. I am also working on my western theater confederate infantry impression and am about done with it. I also have a complete Federal Cavalry impression, plus Confederate cavalry is pretty much just an infantryman on horseback, so that one is pretty much set. I also have almost everything for my civilian impression. Some parts of each kit I still have to barrow, but I am slowly getting there.

You know, for awhile I got caught up in the authenticity "arms race", having to acquire every tpe of shell jacket, material, accoutrement, etc. made out there...After reading "Letters to Amanda", which is a compilation of the War-time letters written by Private Marion Hill-Fitzpatrick (who served in a Georgia Infantry regiment) to his wife (1861-1864), I've pared down my impression considerably...Hill-Fitzpatrick continually writes about receiving ALL his uniforming needs from his wife's own hand - trowsers, shirts, socks, underwear, FROCK coats, up until the Petersburg front in '64, and he only draws clothing from the QM at that time because he wants his wife to save the cloth for their kid's clothing. That being said, my impression is of an infantryman who has been receiving his uniform needs from home or private donation....

I'll rig in.. just to see if folks are actually reading these;
Myself and the DGM boys tend to portray Army of Tennessee infantry from South-Central Kentucky and Middle Tennessee. I, personally, like to portray anywhere from a dapper, dandy, young private of Maury or Williamson County, TN to a backwoods, low-class private looking for means and opportunity from the above stated areas of the map. Recently, I've portrayed the 1st Tennessee Co. Aytch, members of the Orphan Brigade, and soon enough the 24th Tennessee. I've also portrayed some Indiana Federal Infantry events 123rd & 142nd Indiana and soon enough.. The Army of Kentucky (U.S.) for our mess' drill weekend.. Then shifting back to Indiana for Bummers as veteran volunteer of 12th Indiana Infantry. Just a few highlights and insight on my portrayal and areas of study.

Federal Sailor. I can portray an Able Seaman, Signal Quartermaster, Quarter Gunner or Master-At-Arms/Ships Corporal. Living in South Central Kentucky, this requires a lot of travel and I only do living history. Localy thats just show and tell.
Have recently gotten the bug again and am considering reassembling my Fed Infantry impression, just need a new coat.
Am also thinking of putting together a genaric CS Infantry and CS Sailor impression. But that would be down the road as I really don't have any CS gear yet.

I have all the fabrics in hand, it's just finding the time to put it together. Since it apppears that the average CSN Sailor wore blue uniforms for most of the war, it would be just a matter of changing my accent.
