I am burning my last Marlboro's before I switch to my pipe and plug. The car is packed and I will hit the road in a couple of hours.

And 4 hours from Canada, Minnesotans leave before dawn tomorrow!

I live 20 minutes from the bridge to Canada. My Cannuck road trip pard and I are departing the Buffalo, NY area about 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, and driving to Murfreesboro TN for Thursday overnight. It's probably about 13 hours one day from my place; it's 2.5 hours additional for my comrade to get to my house from his place near Toronto, Ontario (for the types who are Ugly Americans, that's a city of over 3 million). Brian's coming to my place this evening in an effort to avoid metro-Toronto rush-hour traffic on Thursday.

We'll be visiting Stones River on Friday morning (second time in five months for us), and Franklin's Carter House (never been there before) on Friday afternoon before getting to the event site in Spring Hill.

On Sunday, we head further south (and east) to Chattanooga, where we'll visit Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain, Orchard Knob, and Missionary Ridge on Monday.

One doesn't make road trips like this all that often, so it's worth taking a couple extra days to visit some historic sites you may not get to that often.

Kevin,

If you'd like (and if I can make time), I'd like to show you some of the less travelled spots in Franklin associated with the battle. Also, if you've been to Stones River already this summer I'd suggest making that a quick trip and making the most of your time in Franklin.

Give me a call on the cell phone (if you don't have that number shoot me a PM and I'll give it to you.)

At any rate, have a safe trip down.

Cheers,
John

Kevin, I agree with Patrick. Franklin holds a lot of unseen spots. Take advantage and spend some time there.

My time of departure will probably be Friday evening. After all it's so far away!!

As a past customer of the Pat Craddock $2 Franklin driving tour I would suggest taking him up on this offer. The service is terrible, tour guide is unkind- but the information is great!

Once again, Greater Metropolitan Stuarts Draft, Virginia, is the collection point for a couple of vehicle loads headed for the Land Beyond the Big Scary Mountains. Who says people in the mid-Atlantic don't head west now and then?

Bucking the trend once again,

The Mess No. 1 Boys from Ohio will be heading out around 10:00 AM (Eastern Time) tomorrow morning. Might do some sight-seeing when we get down there. We'll see how it goes. All I know is that we can finallyget out there and just do it instead of talking about it.
