Gents,
I am looking for a small cuff size button with an artillery piece on the front. The reason I ask is I have studied my ancestors artillery image in great detail and the detail on his buttons on the overshirt he is wearing are small artillery pieces, almost similar to the Rev War artillery buttons minus the Stars and Stripes behind the gun. Has anyone seen this before or know of something similar in an existing original?

I will attempt to blow the detail up from his image and post the pictures when I can get the opportunity. Unfortunately I cannot post the whole photograph as the image is unpublished and I do not have my family's permission to post it anyplace.

My ancestor served with Cosnahans Battery from the Virginia Peninsula until they were folded into the Bedford Light Artillery prior to the Gettysburg Campaign.

Kirby: Have you looked in Alberts button book? Around page 51 there are some early one piece artillery buttons pictured with only the eagle and cannon. If you haven't seen it, might be worth a look.

I'm still working to get the image clearer to show what the buttons look like. They appear to be brass with only the image of a cannon on them, no eagle or flag is noticable on the button above or behind the cannon.

What I may end up doing is having a better copy of the photo sent down so I can scan it in and use a better photoshop type program to manipulate it.

Thanks Bob and Jim for you help thus far!

Cheers,
