We are looking for 15-20 hearty and hale men with Axe, hatchet, strong back and a desire to join Pat Craddock as he forms a federal pioneer platoon for New Hope Church. The Pioneer Platoon will give its members the same experiences as the line company men plus the chance to carry tools and do pioneer work.
Nate Petersburg will act as sergeant for the platoon.
f you have an interest contact Mr. Craddock at craddock64@aol.com.

Steve,
Just looking for a point of clarification as the hamster wheel in my head turns slowly sometimes.
Is this platoon going to be a seperate command that focuses on pioneer duties through the whole event, or is it going to be men pulled from the other companies for pioneer duty as needed, then returned to their companies?
Thanks,
Rmhisteach

Andy,
The Pioneers will be its own separate and organized command. The men of the Pioneers will be organized BEFORE the event and operate as a platoon of Pioneers throughout the weekend.
As Pioneers, the men of this platoon will NOT have to do drill, guard, or other special duties. HOWEVER, what we don't do as typical line soldiers, we WILL make up for during the event with our muscles and sweat.
As our gallant commander, Mr. Acker, has said, there is limited space in the Pioneers and we expect those slots to fill up fast!
I am excited to have Mr. Nate Petersburg as our Srgt., and anyone who knows Nate and myself, and wants to be a part of the Pioneers, should expect to WORK!
I look forward to serving with all those brave enough to serve as Pioneers!

Gentlemen,
While I know the idea of missing out on drill, pickett, guard, and other duties sounds extremely appealing, Mr. Craddock is right this will be no cake walk. It will be work and a lot of it. So don't think this will be an easy assignment. Trust me you will not spend your time just sitting around. Remember who is putting on this event and who the platoon commanders are. When it is all over also remember you were warned.

Guys,
The Pioneer Platoon has generate an extreme amount of interest which is great. For those that are interested in joining this platoon, please remember it is limited in size and will be on a first come first serve basis. Those that get their registrations (both form and fee) before the limit of 20 men is reached will get in. After that you will be placed in one of the standard infantry companies. I encourage everyone attempting to register for this platoon to list an alternate company in case it is full.

Are you KIDDING??? Petersburg almost killed me at the last Pickett's Mill! Well, all joking aside this sounds like a nuts and bolts job.
I'll stick to guard mount and picket duty with the other wimps.

I'm assuming this means no vines on the trail and the use of cuts & fills to hold approach grades to 3% or less ?
