I'm driving to Fredricksburg with the Gawdawfuls and driving to W64 as well.
Musket/rounds arrangement I was going to work on... ya beat me to it.

Gooseberries and Rhubarb will make the best tart-sweet pies you are likely to taste anywhere. They make good jams and jellies too. My grandma, a Very German lady, used to make the best rhubarb/strawberry pie and gooseberry pie in the world. I cannot think of a better dinner right now than a big pile of boiled crawdads, a debris-biscuit, and a nice slice of rhubarb pie, washed down with a good strong coffee.
One tip: The leaves are poisonous, and the roots are a purgative. Eat only the stalk unless you wish to be very ill, or tied to the toilet, heh.
And lastly, serve the reaux on the side. :wink_smil

They only come out at night, and so you'll need s few guys, a lantern and a large gunny sack. One person has the sack, and the others are "beaters" and beat the bushes to chase the rhubarbs towards the sack man. Its exciting being the sack man, so if you are quick enough on your feet, we'll let you be the first sack man until you get tired...

Dennis,
I have been following these rubarb questions closely. Having no first hand knowledge of the critter I just figure that enough hot sauce would make it edible. The most interesting thing I've read is that Dale speaks French, aside from the not so polite phrases he attempted to teach me at TAG. I still find Spanish much easier to get my point across. On a side note, would whoever ended up with my Daley State Issue jacket be interested in trading it for a Daley sack coat?

Youve Guys (See I being Yankee already),
Give me much more credit than I deserve. I only know 33 French words outside the ones we all learned as kids. I am only 1/4 Franch on Mama's side of the family (Father is Angleish). I think we need to be giving "Sugar" credit here...see he is one of our more educated Franch-men. Now, with that being said...I am making a not so educated deduction.....Duffer...he be speaking that book Franch that they made us take back in grade-school.
This "Rhubard-barb Thing"....I believe I have figured out....I went to my Great-Aunt Ma'rie Henr'i ...she says we have been spell'en it wrong. It is spelled "ROUX-BARD"....and is it can be used in any Cajun dish..if you can't find celery...just use Roux-bard instead. It mixes better with Vidialla Onions.

See I look at it this way, if I eat the fruit in question and it courses through my anatomy within 24 hours I'll still be in the neighborhood to give it back ! This should by definition be considered as only borrowing and not require any special paperwork. Except of course the paperwork one must tend to when "giving back" what it is he has borrowed.

This fellow Duffer...is he a real Yankee or what? For he is probably not use to the statement " I'll be back in alittle bit, I'll catch up with you then." Due to the prevalence of alcohol at our cultural events, we have become somewhat immune to the ill effects of Bourbon, Beer, and “Hand Grenades”. However, in cases of extreme indulgence, (such as after LSU's victory over OSU in the National Championship Game), we may succumb to a slight headache the following afternoon.
Quick tip: If you plan to drink heavily at the next event, please have your pards keep an eye on you so that you don’t urinate on your own ground cloth!

Terry,
It's 70 degree's down our way with a slight chance of rain. I can count on one hand how many times I've seen snow on my doorstep. I couldn't imagine two feet of snow for the life of me. Please bring some cool weather down here with you in May!
How often are they updating the registration list on the event website? I have not seen my name yet and I received confirmation early last week!

To all: from the website preservation page - the cost of a fence rail is approximately $5 per. As I understand it we made it half way around the corn field in 2004 and can finish the job this time. John Cleaveland is Top Rail for this effort once again. Let's get behind it. Details are here: http://www.armoryguards.org/pmill2008/
Tripp has made it way easy to just donate via paypal with a button right there on the page.

Terry,
I was in New Orleans this past weekend, so let me "axe u som'en"
Now, I know this aint period....but if Brett Farve (Southern Miss) can throw a football for you Cheese Heads without a glove, in that type of weather...then you can get your money in. :sarcastic
Wayne,
You might be able to count on one hand how many times we have seen it snow in our yard, ..but we aint got enough finger and toes to count how many times we have run from a storm.:wink_smil
Dennis,
It's too bad we can't have a crawfish/rouxbarb boil and charge 10.00 a-head and buy fence rails....I don't think we could bring enough crawfish.
I am getting with Chicken's Mom and get his money this week. I am calling the Monseior as he goes across the Causeway today... he is bringing two he said.
How how I wish we could get Boudroux to come and play that flute....But, we still have Mike'ee!!!

Leaving New Orleans Sunday afternoon, I crossed over Canal, did a U-turn and was getting back on the high-way. To my left, under the bridge, I noticed hundreds of tents...many of you know where I am talking about...it is where the homeless have been camping since the storm.
I saw a man standing by a 4-way stop holding a sign saying..."Will work for Rouxbarb"

Is the preference going to be knapsack or blanket roll? Personally, I always like to carry a knapsack, but I'm considering the blanket roll for less weight. Afterall, I probably only need a light blanket, perhaps a shelter half, and a ground cloth. These could easily be carried in the blanket roll. However, if the preference is knapsack, I can do that.

Knapsack, and forage cap is prefferable in Company E. We should have a slight mix but still maintain a knapsack majority.

Chicken, Sausage, and Rouxbarb Jambalaya
By: Chief Henr'i Beasley
1 small chicken (2 to 3 pounds) cut into 2-inch pieces, rinsed, and dried 8 cups Chicken Stock or water
½ cup oil 1 tablespoon chopped garlic Salt to taste
2 cups finely chopped onion Ground cayenne pepper to taste
½ cup chopped bell pepper 1 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 cup finely chopped green onions 2 pounds smoked sausage, sliced ¼ inch thick
3 cups long grain rice
In a heavy, high-walled chicken fryer over a medium heat, brown the chicken in the oil, stirring the meat around so it won’t stick. After the chicken has browned, remove it from the pot. Then add the onions, bell pepper, parsley, and green onions, and sauté until the onions are clear. Stir in the sausage, rice, stock, garlic, chicken, salt, and pepper. Continue cooking until nearly all the water has boiled out, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer until the rice is done, about 1 hour. Do not lift the lid for at least 1 hour.
Now you Yankee Boys can leave out the Rouxbarb....it's good eating.

Crawfish Maque Chow
By: Chef Henr'i Beasley
½ cup olive oil 1 cup dry white wine
1 cup chopped onion 1 cup water
1 cup chopped onions 1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
¾ cup chopped bell peppers Salt and cayenne pepper to taste
1 tablespoon dried parsley or 1 cup chopped fresh parsley 1 tablespoon steak sauce
4 cups corn cut and scraped off the cob or canned whole kernel corn, drained 2 pounds crawfish tails, peeled
Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium fire, then cook the onions, bell peppers, and parsley, stirring, until the onions are clear and the peppers are cooked. Add the corn and stir real well, then add the wine, water, and garlic. Stir in the salt, cayenne, and steak sauce, reduce the fire to low, cover, and cook until the corn is done, about 20 minutes. Camerone Day is the holy of holies for the French Foriegn Legion, Cinco De Mayo from the other side of the fence. In 1863, 67 legionaires under Captain Danjou fought 2000 Mexicans and did pretty well up till they lost. Monsieur Danjou had a wooden hand that was recovered after the battle and it's brought out each year for La Fete de Camerone.

We have had four men drop out from the event in Company E. So if you wish to be a substitution in an outstanding Company please let Tripp and myself know ASAP. I know the weeks before an event, somethings come up that may force you to not be able to attend, but remember that the make up of a company i.e officers and nco's are based on the numbers we have. If you cannot go please try to find a substitute so the functionality of the company does not suffer. Above all remember we really need you to make this event happen.
