Does anyone have an engraving or any image of a bayonet drill dummy.
I have a 1805 British bayonet drill manual that mentions posts and such to strike at. but can't find an image of one. If you have anything like it, even in the ACW period I'd be grateful. Thanks.

Thank you that does answer my question. but I'd still appreciate a picture. Though the descriptions are quite clear.
We did a bayonet drill at our garison last year and we did it in the air, then on a straw dummy. Only thing is I wondered what the dummy looked like. I got this print fro ma Russian manual, but it looks like brooms to practise aiming at riders.

Working on a plan right now. I am in the process of helping to plan a garrison event in August (the impression is a company of US Regulars garrisoning a local Fort in fall of 65).
It will be a small event where we (the event hosts/organizers) are planning a few surprises for the attendees.
One of which will be a few exercises in bayonet drill which will include the use of “canvas stuffed straw...suspended by cords for targets.” This is quoted from McClellan’s bayonet drill. If I can remember I will send you some pictures of our completed project.

I've never made one, but I've seen quite a few walking around at events.:p

I've used burlap feed sacks stuffed with straw for bayonet drill dummies, they work well.
