Here is another shipping crate for your viewing pleasure. I picked this glass crate up the other day in North Western Missouri. Only one side is marked. It is constructed with cut nails. The lid was removed from the box and it was converted to a lock box of sorts. A portion of the lock box lid is re-installed with cut nails, the hinges are applied with straight headed flat head screws. The box appears to have been broken into at one time, from the "chew" marks near where the lock was and the addition of metal plates.

I am having trouble picking out what it says on the crate... Here is what I have...

Nice crate, Mitch. Thanks for sharing. Cool skull in the background, too. Did that come in the crate???

Thanks fellas! The skull is just a random desk decoration of mine.

I have talked to John Maki (Who makes the boxes displayed on the Dog River Glass page) and he believes that the glass this box once contained would have had card stock inbetween each of the pieces.

Could it be a box for 8x10 Wet Plate Negative/Ambrotype glass plates?
I always assumed they would be sent upright in a slotted box--but the interior of the box could be altered or they may have shipped them flat or on their side without slots as well

There are no slots or places for dividers in this box... I had thought it may be for negative plates, but was unsure... I will check with Szabo to see what he thinks this weekend...
