I recently purchased a plunger less 1lb wooden butter mold and was wondering if there is a trick to seasoning it before use so that the butter doesn't stick?
I used it once after churning some fresh butter at a middle school demonstration, but before doing so coated it with oil. That didn't work and I ended up digging it all out.:(

I think that over time it Will naturally soak up the fats in the butter and season itself.I have an old wooden cutting board that has done the same thing and has made like a non stick surface.
You could try lightly oiling it several times waiting a few days up a week before re oiling.

Warm the wood.
Warm the beeswax.
Put the two together. Thin coat will do nicely. You might want to blot out as much of the soaked in butter as you can.
Either that, or lick the spoon BEFORE you dig out all the butter. Then you can eat it all yourself, and don't have to share with anyone.

You can also use walnut oil to treat a new butter press prior to using. It is a drying oil and of course it is food safe. Cover all surfaces with the oil, allow it to sit for 10 minutes then wipe off all excess. Allow to dry for a week or two and apply a second coat if necessary.
Dispose of oily rags properly as they are a fire hazard as it is a drying oil.

Hello
I've read yours post and I've a little problem with walnut oil or butter , thats kind of fat take the O2 and go rancid, so with a bad taste.
Olive oil can't go rancid but is it accurate to use that kind of imported product in ACW renactment, I don't know.
You have to avoid siccative oils like linen seed oil
