I think most that will be in that area that weekend will be at the Chickamauga LH at the National Park. The event is on this forum at http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13502
Hope this helps.

Many of us tried like crazy to get the organizers to move the event to 2009 at least, but failed. Our reasons:

1. No organized federal command structure (see #4)
2. Many campaigners would be at the Park for the LH event
3. Not enough notice for such an ambitious event (great plans, just wrong year).
4. Massive confliction with other NSA events and the schedule in general.

Doug's right--we talked, pleaded, reasoned, did a bit of everything, trying to get that event moved. Organizers were not having it.

Not only did the authentic military side of the hobby have a prior event carved in stone at the Park, so did the authentic civilian side--as this is also the weekend of Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, a strong 'must do' as well.

For our little organization, this has meant that a skeleton crew of us will be providing civilian interaction for the AOT at Chickamauga. And, we'll pick up a few folks that just would not normally travel as far as Kentucky. But, for the bulk of our folks, that weekend will see them happily playing at Shaker Village. And I'll be green with envy all weekend.

For the rest of us---well, the AOT has been mighty good to us over the years, and we are going to show up. We won't be falling on our swords to do so, because we don't have swords..................

An interesting portrayel to say the least, with high expectations if done correctly, i.e. the ages of recruits.

Doug,

Which NSA events does 145th Chickamauga conflict with?

Randy> i'll answer that... The First Federal Division (the Union side of the NSA) had already committed over a year ago to TWO events in 2008 (Stand of Colors in May and At High Tide at the end of June). We were not even presented with the particulars of the Chickamauga event until just this January 2008. Unfortunately, we had to vote as a Board to decline attending the event as a Division. It was just not practical or possible to ask the boys to travel yet again, or to ask the leadership and staff to put the work in to coordinate and support a third event in a year. In addition, some of our troops had already committed to Marmaduke's Raid in September. Because of all these factors, we asked for the CWC to move the event to 2009 or such, and for their own logistical reasons, were unable to do so.

While there are some units within the FFD that have decided to include Chickamauga in their plans, and we encourage anyone who wants to attend to certainly do so, it will not be an event that will be supported logistically by the First Federal Division or its staff.

Maybe event organizers will someday FINALLY decide to work together and the "EVENT WARS" can come to an end... the hobby is just not big enough or able to survive these "my event is better than your event" BS anymore... it has damaged the hobby in so many ways over the years! And we are all guilty of it, the C/P/H community included! When will someome figure out that we need to work TOGETHER in this, and not contiune to fractionalize???

Hope that info helps!

Co. Aytch will be a good show, dear pards. Stop by and see us. We're gonna do our best to portray the boys from Maury. It'll be a busy weekend in Chickamauga whatever the case. I hope to visit some of the other goings on as well.. unless ol' Bragg needs us rested and ready for defense.. I hear Wilder's Lightning Mules will be looming about this weekend. I'd sure hate to meet those repeaters.

Another shameless plug/ reminder.. I know.. but

I repost from another thread:

To the folks in town for whatever reason during the Chickamauga 145th,

I know this does not relate to this particular thread and I also know it conflicts with the Federals at [their] living history AND conflicts with the mainstream/progressive reenactment down south. BUT.. I wanted to remind everyone that we young'uns in Maney's 1st Tennesse; Company Aytch, will be camping, marching, drilling, and causing mischief all weekend at the battlefield park in conjunction with the anniversary events. It should prove to be quite a portrayal with a good attitude and enough research. We've certainly have a splendid group assembled. I do hope to visit the Federal living history and even head out to view the goings down at the battle as well. Gosh, there is so much going on next weekend. It'll be history overload. I can't wait! AC members and friends alike.. if you have some free time stop by the park and come find us.

For those attending the 145th Chickamauga Not At the Park, I'd like to call your attention to a well researched civilian goods vendor, Goldsmith & Goolsby Dry Goods.

This family has a truely unique portrayal--combining well researched civilian goods with the then ubiquitous Deep South Jewish merchantile --the peddlers and storefronts that gave rise to the great clothing and jewelry houses of the Deep South--the Pizitzs, Blachs, Brombergs, Lovemans, Rutenbergs, Steins, and Rosenbergs.

In addition to the goods for sale, on occassion I've also seen some interesting portrayals, as the lovely ladies have presented speeches on suffrage, temperance, abolition, and other issues of the period.

I'm slow. You will be on NPS battlefield land doing this ?

I am coming up to view the Federal / 21st Ohio LH and would really like to see this.

Chris,

Our mess, the Dippin' Gourd Mess, has been invited to do this on NMP land. I am unaware, at this time, where exactly; but I imagine somewhere in the vicinity of the visitors center or near the main thoroughfare. We will be arriving, setting up on Friday and staying until late on Sunday. Plans are in the works to follow the original formations and routes taken by the 1st TN that fateful September day. We will likely burn some powder; but even then I am unsure. We also plan to pass the time improving our 1st TN character impressions, speaking and demonstrating for the public, and essentially enjoying ourselves in period camp life and we'll even reenact a few 'events' from the book - Co. Aytch. I will be portraying Billy Carr. Although he wasn't included in Sam's account of Chickamauga.. Sam regarded him as the bravest of the brave in the First. If you will recall he also saved Sam's life and Sam took quick vengence upon his death. I also, though unaware, have been told that Sam will not be portrayed next weekend. So, for what it's worth, we'll be out there come rain or shine or Lincoln lead.

Mods,

Is there a reason why a discussion regarding the mainstream Chickamuaga event is one the AC Forum Discussion board? This event is Mainstrea, at BEST. If folks REALLY wanted to support a c/p/h effort then you should be discussing how you could have supported the c/p/h Living History at the NPS battlefield site.

Hallo!

Moderator hat on..

I have temporarily put this thread "on hold" pending a moderator panel review of whether it is an AC Board violation or whether the spirit of "campaigner adjunct" is being met.
