Greetings, everyone. I plan on going to Gettysburg for the 145th anniversary this July. Could anyone recommend which airport I should choose? I'm looking for the easiest drive to Gettysburg in a rented car, if indeed, any one airport is easier to navigate than others. How about traffic? Unbearable, I imagine?

BWI was by far the cheaper and most convenient of the DC area airports to fly into for me and Harrisburg, PA, though closest, is usually more expensive.

Ditto on Baltimore-Washington---city traffic, rental cars, and strange roads are all things that make me sweat bullets.

During the 140th, I flew into BWI, got a rental, hilighted a paper map, and took off---roads were well marked, easy to navigate, and traffic flowed well right up to the site gates --I came in on Thursday morning, found my friends, and we immediately made camp and took off for the Park.

Probably the largest difficulty I encountered was dealing with that little sports car gear shift while wearing a hoop skirt.

Sunday night, we watched all the traffic empty out, and spent a nice night still on site. The next morning, I hopped back in the car, and made a noon flight out of BWI .

I used to live in Carlisle, 27 Miles north of Gettysburg and we used BWI all the time. Harrisburg is closer if you want to pay more, or can use some sorts of rewards or Frequent Flyer miles. BWI is fairly easy to get in and out, just avoid rush hour and you can go west to Frederick and then straight up to Gettysburg all 4-lane.

Ditto on avoiding rush hour in that area if at all possible. The Baltimore/DC area during rush hours are nasty. It one time took me 4 hours to get from Dulles (sp?) international to Baltimore due to the time of day. I can't remember where BWI is but plan accordingly.
