Gentlemen;
We haven't ever done this, but knowing we are local, we have been approached by some c/p/h'ers. The proceeds from this event are also going to disabled children and although we do a lot for preservation and awareness, I know I personally probably don't do enough in areas like this. As such, we have formed a Confederate campaigner company, which will particpate in the 24-hour campaigner/forward/outpost area.
Mike Kupsch, (M_Kupsch on here) of the Tater Mess will lead this company, but this company will be composed of several like-minded individuals from like-minded messes or units. (We are also using this as a tune-up for Pickett's Mill.)
As such, we welcome any enthusiastic, soldiers who feel they meet the following:
- Attention to impression detail. You may or may not be familiar with this campaign and we will advise accordingly if you ask. I will post impression guidelines in another post.
- Great attitude and ability to follow orders.
- At least Average degree of fitness. Not asking for Olympians, but can you run in your gear and do you look like you have been on 'campaign' for months. This is a national event.
- Willingness to do missionary work. This is not an EBUFU event. But regardless of how we are treated, we will conduct ourselves above that, and not take it personal.
- Can you campaign with only what you can carry on your back and can you be ready to move camp in a moment's notice? No sleeping bags, tents or modern anachronisms.
- You enjoy some first-person interaction.
Addtionally, I encourage you to visit the Steamboat Arabia museum.... one of the most incredible collections. Kansas City is also home to Wide Awake Films. Jesse James birthplace/museum/Farm, Battle of Westport, Battle of Lone Jack, etc. are all within 45 minutes. Wilson's Creek (the current Wide Awake dvd project is about 4.5 hours south of KC.
Please PM us if you are interested in being part of this company and we'll work to get you on the roster.

Here is a brief summary from the website....
For the first time in event history, the campaigners have the opportunity to be forward deployed and camped, instead of in the rear in some “remote” forgotten area. The forward units of each Army (US/CS) will be across a tactical area from each other, with the “main tent camps” behind them and actually buffering them from the modern world. They will camp with picket posts/outposts set out across from the picket posts of their counterparts, and will be able to “sleep on arms” all weekend in a military tactical experience. There will be no modern public access to these areas; only military and civilian living historian access!
The main camps are on good, high ground, and also have a good shield from the modern sutlers, etc. The US and CS camps are separated by the Public field so camp police guard will be in force as well in these areas.
For those engaged in the “tactical area” the scene will be set for 1864 throughout the weekend. It will be “on” from the start of the event until the end, with proper military organization, tactical considerations, internal and external force security (pickets/ reserves/police guards, etc). It will afford an excellent opportunity for living history, including interaction with opposing forces!
If your unit/organization is in the tactical area, you will be “on duty” as a soldier in 1864 basically the whole time.
