I met John for the first and only time at what remains one of the worst (dangerous) events I have ever attended. He was a bright, iconoclastic star that weekend who kept us entertained with his observations and opinions. RIP Big guy.

Well perhaps Stretch should have received the "Rebel of the Year" award if there was one for hardcore living historians. He actually looked and sounded like a real Southern soldier in the field. I didn't know him as well of others, but he will always be in my mind as one the best in the hobby. You just can't buy an impression like that...
