Interesting cdv of a Missouri "Sergeant" wearing a snazzy, apparently private-purchase, sack coat with a velvet (?) collar. The coat is clearly too small for the individual shown, so it may have been a "loaner."
Of further interest is the man's trousers: they appear to have creases in them.

It is small for the fellow...wonder if he has something around his high waist area..looks odd...and your right, does appear to have creases in the pants.
Unusual photo for sure.

Sir, the coat does look tight along with tight trousers and a crease, hum. Do you see how the bottom of coat on both sides looks turned in. From here it appears another button way low ( probably a blemish on image), but he couldn't be wearing an "iron vest" could he? Thanks for bringing it out. P.S., does his trousers have a stripe?
There definitely looks to be a fifth button located on the sack, where the lower edges are folded in...but can't be sure... In any case, Excellent photo sir, thank you for posting it.

I believe that is an excellent image of a CW era dork.

The individual also appears to be rather young. Do you by chance know which Missouri unit he belongs to?
Also note all the "farby" hat brass

I wonder if there is something under the coat. The sleave length, shoulder seam, and neck/collar of the coat all look like they fit pretty well. The top button doesn't look stretched at all.
