Guys,
I am looking for any information on 1854 Shakos. Are there any good sites with photos of originals? I am very interested in the construction of the shako. So an internal photos would help immensely. Also any advice would help. I am looking to build one so that I can crush it as you commonly see in photos to make it look like a forage cap.
Thanks,
Kevin Braafladt

Mr. Braafladt,
I'm not sure if there are any 1854 style shakos on here, but this link has quite a number of original shakos from the pre-war era.

I hope this is of some help,

Pamplin Park owns a beautiful shako, it isn't on display. The curator there may be able to send you a picture. He's a nice guy, pretty easy to work with. I can't remember what model Shako it is though.
