Found an 1863 patriotic songbook published in Illinois viewable online in its complete original form. Comes from "Historybroker.com" website (see my other recent post: http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19688) which has a lot of good primary docs to view or purchase.

It sure would be nice if repros of this could be made (if they aren't already).

Enjoy,

I am so glad that I am from INDIANA! Whatever you guys are doing over in Illinois make sure it stays there :wink_smil

It is funny how the meanings of words can change in 145 years...could you imagine a group of us singing that song at a living history for a bunch of school kids? haha

I HATE how the word "gay" has been hijacked in the last half of the 20th century.

It's a fine word. You find it all over the place in period songs. I'm partial to that old chestnut, "Happy are we, Darkies so gay."
