Folks, FYI- if you are using Firefox as for your internet connection, you'll need to go out and pull it up through Internet Explorer to get it to work right. I was scratching my head about why it wouldn't work right and that's what it was.:)

Hi,

I was having the same problem, but I fixed it by sending through my normal e-mail; with the registration form attached. Thanks

For whatever reason, the button for the paypal registration payment is covered up with text when you're using Firefox and isn't usable but when you're on IE, it's just fine.

Had to save document onto desktop, then fill it out, then save and email as an attachment.

See y'all there.

Yep, if you need to save it to the desktop and attach it, that will work just fine. The registration e-mail is bummers2009@yahoo.com.

As far as the PayPal button, I had to do some formatting to get it to look right on the page. I will do some messing with it tonight and let you guys know when to check again through Firefox.

If anyone else has issues, just let us know in this thread and we will endeavor to fix them.

Mine is sent in. Ordered me a torch as well, I feel the heat coming down on Ga now.

Just as a heads up, only way I found to be able to save the document, using I.E, I had to close the document forcing my computer to ask me do I want to save it, before I could send it.

Folks, please send your registration as a separate attachment to bummers2009@yahoo.com . This will let me know which company or regiment you are falling in with! Also, please let me know if you paid via PayPal as some folks are paying for others and some account names do not match email addresses. Trying to make it easier for me! Thanks!

P.S. You must send it in WORD...not Word Perfect! Thanks! :)

Thanks to everyone who has registered so far. The response has been very brisk and we truly appreciate it. After the initial registration dies down a bit, we will begin publishing the "Registered List" on the Bummers web site to keep everyone up-to-date as to how the foraging parties and companies are coming together.

More information about preservation efforts will be put out early next week.

We will announce "Bummers Buys" as they come on-line.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

News of late on General Sherman's US troop movements.

The position of affairs in Georgia.

Richmond Daily Dispatch
August 30, 1864

The latest advices from Georgia show that Sherman 's situation is becoming hourly more perilous. No army, in the history of this war, has occupied so dangerous a position. The hope of succor from the diversion made by Smith has been blasted by the diversion made by Forrest on Memphis, which has sent Smith at a double-quick back to that city, pursued and harassed by that portion of Forrest's cavalry which was in his front. The most important intelligence we can now look for must come from Wheeler. It is not so important that he should do so much damage to the roads in Sherman 's rear as it is that he should remain on them, giving them a tapping every day. Two weeks (if he can stay so long) will settle the question of the enemy's remaining on this side of the Chattahoochee, and then the question as to whether his army will ever get home again becomes open to discussion. Our scouts report that some portions of Sherman 's forces are already reduced to green corn for rations, and we know that the country from Atlanta to Dalton, on the Georgia State road, has been devastated for four miles each side by the enemy gathering provisions. As far as we can hear from Wheeler he is doing his work well. He has not wasted his men in assaults on the fortified bridges over the Etowah and other streams between Atlanta and Dalton, but has thoroughly destroyed the road between these bridges, which he could do with impunity, as the Yankees remain in their forts at the bridges from fright and allow him to tear up the road within a few hundred yards of them unmolested. The road between the cities named has been pretty well used up, and now we hear of our forces destroying that between Dalton and Nashville. So timid have the Yankees in their forts been, that much of their cattle has been driven off almost from under their guns.

The possession of Atlanta may now be said to be reduced to a cavalry fight about the lines of communication, and Sherman so recognizes it. The recognition, however, comes a little too late. The disaster to Stoneman's raid deprived him of the best part of his cavalry, and now that the time has come for its use, he has only Kilpatrick to rely on to catch Wheeler. This general was started out on that mission directly it was known that Wheeler had left, but, finding pursuit useless, turned his attention to destroying the West Point and Macon lines of railroad running out from Atlanta. While at Jonesboro', on the Macon road, he fell into the hands of both Confederate infantry and cavalry, got thrashed, and made his way back to Sherman after losing heavily.

Sherman will have now to prepare for recrossing the Chattahoochee, and will no doubt accomplish it with little risk, as he has the ground between the river and Atlanta closely covered with line after line of fortifications. It is after he is across that the race commences.

Georgia Militia

Macon Telegraph - August 2, 1864

Sixteen hundred of the Georgia militia started from Macon for Atlanta.

They made a fine appearance as they marched through the streets; were in the very best spirits, and appeared ready to meet the enemy in the defence of their homes. The material of this brigade is as good as that of any in the South, and we are certain they will do honor to the State when brought into action. A similar number will go down to Atlanta each day during the week from this place. There is now a large force of militia at Macon, which, when sent to the front, will prove a valuable accession to our gallant army.

His Excellency Governor Joseph E. Brown, Generals Joseph E Johnston, B, Bragg, Anderson, O

Tennessee, Wayne and Illadman, were all in Macon on Sunday.

A large number of wounded Yankees have arrived in Macon. A large number of prisoners also continue to arrive on every train.

What exactly are the "preservation torches"?

Eric Tipton

What exactly are the "preservation torches"?

Kyle:

Good question. The torches were the brainchild of Matt Woodburn (Notice the tie-in with his name? Just realized that last week :D). All we can tell you at this point is that they very well may come in handy - especially on the Federal side. They are being made using period methods by two of our Armory Guard friends Kiev Thomason and Jordan Roberts. They can also be kept after the event as a memento to remember Bummers... and as our friend Johnny Lloyd pointed out, there is some irony here about combining the words "Preservation" and "Torch". ;)

The torches are twelve dollars apiece and can be purchased at the same time that you send in your registration. They are the first of our fund-raising efforts for the event. Matt will be along to talk about some of the other fundraising very soon.

Hopefully, I sufficiently answered your question.

12-09-2008, 08:59 PM
Alright, Eric has asked me to start posting some information about our fund raising for Bummers. I always ask some questions about this kind of stuff, like where's the money going and why should I care? The designated recipient (that's the organization who gets the money for those of you who count with help of your toes) is the Wray Collection at the Atlanta History Center. I had the chance this past weekend to meet with Gordon Jones who is the Senior Military Historian and Curator of the Atlanta History Center. He told me the museum is buying this collection and has 1.3 million to go. So our help is very much needed and very much appreciated. He also said that this collection has many of the one of a kind Confederate items in existence. So it's a collection worth preserving. The collection is massive and I know most of us would love the opportunity to look it over. It will need to go to a museum if we want to see it. Collections like this otherwise go the Heritage or Cowans auctions and go into private hands. So what can you do to help? Right now, buy a "Preservation Torch" when you register. If you already registered, but didn't get one, you can go back and order one. You will pick up yours when you register at the event. You are going to need them at Bummers. Yep, we're using them. Remember, Bummers is not some mamby pamby, politically correct, spectator event. We're going to rain hell on this place. You will have the once in a lifetime chance to really burn and destroy. You might actually be ordered to. And everyone knows a Bummer without a torch is like a man without balls or a backbone. And anyone who has read a real history book outside of a public school (quit squirming, I'm a product of public school), knows that the Johnnies burned just as much trying to keep anything of use out of the hands of the Yankees. So Johnnies, buy a torch and burn all the food we're supposed to forage. Make us really starve for a weekend. If you are decended of real Confederates and you don't burn the Yankees supplies, your ancestors are rolling over in their graves and you're no longed allowed to whistle Dixie. If I were going Johnny to this, the Yanks wouldn't get a bite to eat all weekend unless they chewed on Georgia clay. That's the kind of welcome mat you lay out for Sherman's bummers. And you politely say after you have totally screwed the Yankees into starvation a passive aggressive, "Y'all come back again now! Ya hear!" I've learned the way of the southerners (suthron for those who are) in my fourteen years in Dixie and with an Alabama wife. At this event the Johnnies are out numbered and out gunned so, bottom line you rebels need to get torches too. It's really the only way to make the Yanks pay hell. Burn our food and we're screwed. Gee, everybody needs a torch to play. So order yours today!

I'll post other things we are going to do once they are confirmed.

Oh Frank, Frank, Frank. We'll have the entire woods engulfed in flames and so hot that your "circumcising knives" will melt and become flacid the moment they are unsheathed. And so I can avoid it myself, how did you get roped into a job involving other men's floppies anyway?
