I am looking for information on the side knife that Francis Brownell is wearing during his infamous picture. Any help as far as what type and or where one could get one would be of great help. thanks

That photo was taken after the Brownell hero-worship craze had already set in, and knives were a common token of appreciation. Another studio photo of Brownell taken prior to this one doesn't show the knife in his belt.

He received one very elaborate dagger from some friends in Boston, which is described as being a lot fancier than the one we see here, which looks like a pretty standard dagger.

I'm no knife expert, and will probably be corrected by those who are, but I've always referred to this style as a "Liberty Knife."

Marc,
Thanks for the post. I have been there before looking. I am just trying to find someone whio carries a dagger like that. I know most pics were for show with many props. Thanks

Blockade Runner sells a "Liberty Knife," which I'd purchased for ornamentation in my Fire Zouave impression. Like many edged weapons, there are very few options out there for accurate replicas, so originals/later production of old style knives might be the best bet.
