Events in October?

Are there any events that anybody is doing in October in the Southeastern United States?

It looks like a dead month.

Well...If you can make the trip, The Battle of Fort Sanders (Mainstream Event) will be held October 17-19th. It was an awesome event last year and from what the planners said this past weekend at Race To Knoxville, they plan to make it a much bigger and more interesing event this year. Definitely worth the trip if possible.

Perryville Kentucky the best event in the state. October 3-4, Chad Greene really does a wonderful job at this one, rations and everything.

In addition to Perryville, Ky (get up a carload, get on I65 and point yourself north), you have several other opportunities in roughly the same time frame.

There is a period work weekend at Westville, Ga right at the end of September--a fine time to trot out whatever civilian items you have, and get some good pointers to prepare for Westville in 2010. Folks with skills will be flooring a structure, building steps, and painting. Folks without skills will be cleaning and sweeping. Contact me privately and I'll pass you on to the lady in charge.

Death March # something or other is wayyyyyy up north in Yankeeland. This event has a strong probability of a Deep South carpool. Federals will be building a corduroy road, Cornfeds will be trying to keep that from happening. Me, I'll be boiling a pig's head.......

Now, you have skeered him, so put a pillow case over his head so he doesn't see the bright lights and tall buildings along I-81 or US 15 or PA/NY 14 on his way up north. I need to get my registration in to Doug & Terri, come to think of it.

'Twas a heck of a lot of event producers in that room Saturday night for such a small posse of people. Maybe it was a cabal. Dunno. Pie was good. Cider was better.

:D In my quest to quit falling in a heap or sending the Doc into coniption fits at what foolish thing I've done lately, I passed on the pie and the cherry bounce, and had exactly one tablespoon of cider. Still a lovely evening.

The last legendary 'go sumplace a long way oft' mixed military and civilian carpool was that journey we made to Athens a few years back. Rocky's been educated by the driver of that particular vee-hicle. Whether or not they let a brand-new schoolteacher off work for that sort of drive time is another matter,

Oh--and decide early and often on this thing if your Fed kit is not up to snuff--the confederate places are limited. Of course, if you can beg, borry, or steal a proper Fed kit, you will have the opportunity to learn a skill that will stand you well in life.

Not sure how far you'd all be willin to travel - but this is a new event taking place in CNY - and there's tons to do in the area as well. We currently have dozens of units from VT down to VA looking to join us. Hope we can pick up more to join the action!

Re-enactors from the entire northeast will congregate on 150 acres of pristine valleys, meadows, mountains, and creeks in scenic Madison County NY; to portray a north vs. south weekend. Battle scenes, hospital scenes, living history, fashion show, vintage games, church services, candle light tours, artillery and cavalry will all display a historically accurate portrayal of life during Civil War. Sutlers will be peddling their wares, available for reenactor and public purchases. Educational Day on Friday for local schools for living history. The weekend will be open to the public 10-5 each day, as well as Fri/Sat. evenings for optional candle-light tours at 7pm. Please check out the website for details, rules/regs, and registration. No fees, we will accept registrations through Sept.1. Hay, firewood, potable water, provided at campsite. Saturday dinner included. Bounty to first 5 registered full scale cannons. We're still figuring out whether we are driving, flying, or taking the train and renting a car.

All are options, and folks are having a hard time figuring out off time and travel this far in advance, especially with the scheduling train wreck that is late September early October. Complicating this is the reality of drive time---we don't see a 'straight though' drive being a wise option at this distance.

Cast about and see who you know that might be interested....real numbers make a difference on this plan.
