Comrades,

Since everything from the 19th appears to have flown the coop I will repost.

Looking for information regarding a CW contractor (of at least cartridge
boxes) named JB Thaxter. The only information I have is that this contractor
was in Portland Maine and made at least some cartridge boxes.

I am looking for any additional information such as date the contract was
filled ('62, early '63, etc.), the size of the contract (500 boxes or 5,000
etc.), etc.

Mr. Jarnagan asked me to contact him offline. Sir I did so - somewhat late
Calif. time. Hopefully you received the e-mail.

John,

The original box shown near the bottom of this page is a 1862 dated Thaxter. I will send you the rest of the information by e-mail.

John,

A handy book for contractor information is Bazelon & McGuinn's "Directory of American Military Goods Dealers & Makers 1795-1915". This book is currently available at Amazon.com for $35.00. It is well worth the price. Your local library can also obtain a copy through interlibrary loans.

Thaxter is listed on page 163.

If you want both the types and contract information I would suggest the book listed below over the "Directory of American Military Goods Dealers & Makers 1795-1915". I use Paul’s book 50 times more than I use the Directory. This is a shamless plug for a great book and a good friend. His scabbard book is going to cause many changes in what reenactors carry and use, when it comes out.
