Besides being an '04 tree (thick low pommel, round low cantle, just like they made in '61) There's no such animal as an "NCO saddle" Worst yet, it looks like it's been in a damp basement for a couple of years and someone scraped the mildew of for the photo.

Let it go become a table lamp somewhere and die in peace.

I sent the seller an email and they replied
"Actually the tree is marked 1861.. So I am sorry if you are feeling misled. I am only going by how much I paid for this saddle and what I was told when I bought it years ago. I am in no way trying to fool anyone. If it is a McClellan where would I find that marking.
Jim"

Sent him some links and pics, we will see if he is honest I suppose.... He has an officer reproduction that looks like a Kidd saddle, way over priced too.

Well the proud purveyor revised his description to read
Description (revised)
This is an authentic NCO saddle. The saddle is from 1861 it is all restored and has been used in re-enactments. Ready for your re-enactments or to put out for show. It has 1861 marked on the tree, tail cruper, breastplate with brass, done to full re-enactment specs. Really a great civil war piece. Shipping will depend on your address. Will except PayPal, money orders or cashiers check. See my other listing for a NCO saddle.

It is in fact a poorly done 1904 "conversion", now the officer saddle he has is Doug Kidd and not to bad.

Am I wrong or is this a deliberate attempt at deception?

Tod and All.....The Individual did change the description to simply state he used it in reenactig and it maybe a 1904. And, of course it is. Thanks for your input to him and his resulting change. Bottom line. No one here buy it.

He sent me an email that he had changed it and give him credit for that. I don't see anyone giving $800 for it. He might do better seperating the gear with it although I didn't see anything there of real value
The other saddle, the Kidd officer model, would be decent at a lower price than he is asking.
