Awesome. Chickamauga has always been one of my favorite places.
The most fun thing I've ever done was the steam locomotive pulling 2 flatcars full of CS troops at the 1999 Chickamauga re-enactment. Wouldn't it be neat to see a trainload of Longstreet's men going down the tracks?

They did that last year and they usually do. I have a friend who works for the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum and he says they have done it for a few years now. I agree though, super cool to have Longstreets corp come down in a correct manner, even if the train itself is a bit modern(steam powered, but circa 1950's)
Sincerely,

Thanks for the post, Lee!
I will attend whether I still live here in NC or am permanently living in Chatt, which is the plan......sounds like a great time.

I'm sure you can count on plenty of us going ! Hopefully it could be something along the lines of what we did with the AoT / ANV living history a couple years back.We moved in real time, following the actions of the 7thSC and the 7th Texas (?) The photos of that, what over a quarter mile skirmish line, heading towards Snodgrass, are something to behold .

Gawd... I hope it is nothing like "Chokeadusty" 1999's mainstream event that year. I still have rocks in my nostrils from that event.

I think it could be a "we will look at it for sure" event. I love the area.

Well, if the 150th event is ANYTHING like what Jim Ogden talked to me about this past summer NO ONE will want to miss it.
I wont give away any secrets, but will say that in 22 years of this hobby I can think of one one other time this concept has been attempted.
I hope it works as Jim is thinking!

Thats what we are aiming for, if it works it will be the largest program we have ever done and will definately be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

For all who have shown interest,
As Lee said, this will be a major event!! Let's just say, it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of us! So, get the word out so we can get those brigades formed...oops...did I let a little secret slip through. :wink_smil That's all I'm saying! Come out to support YOUR national military park in 2013!

Once again this will be a unique experience unlike anything else that has ever been done by us here at Chickamauga. We are looking to try to field a complete horse drawn battery, Infantry brigades (to Chickamauga scale), and maybe even something involving fording the Chickamauga Creek and having the LaFayette Road returned to a period appearance.

Somehow, I don't think you're talking about what Jim Butler did last year at Chickamauga or what the WIGs did two years ago and a few years before that. Said living histories merited status as EBUFU and had subfolders here. EBUFU is about "authentic" events.
When you mention a mid-20th century steam train and Longstreets Corps, you're talking about a completely different type of event which is best discussed on some other forum. Said events do not merit being mentioned in this forum and especially not in the authentic events folder.

I remember a few years back, we did a real time march through the park, and did the maneuvers of the engagements at Chickamauga. It was something that i have been wanting to do again, only on a larger scale.

Given our relationship with the park from past events, I am sure the WIG will be interested in taking part in this effort. Lee - let me know what I can do to help.

Lee,
Do you have any plans/room to include mounted types ?
I Know I ,personally, would LOVE to participate in anything at Chickamauga again if given the chance. I am sure the rest of the Critters and friends would as well.
thanks,

We haven't really talked too awful much about a mounted segment, but I think it would be pretty cool to be able to have enough mounted men to interpret the various uses of a mounted escort company. This was something very unique to the Army of Tennessee, and according the Dave Powell's new book, The Maps of Chickamauga, escort companies for the various infantry commands were as follows:
General Headquarters (Bragg)
Escort: Druex Co. Louisiana Cavalry (68 men)
Escort: Company K, 3rd Alabama Cavalry (68 men)
Right Wing (Lt. Gen. Leonidas Polk)
Escort: Greenleaf's Company Louisiana Cavalry (33 men)
Cheatham's Division (Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Cheatham)
Escort: Company G, 2nd Georgia Cavalry (32 Men)
Hindman's Division (Maj. Gen. Thomas C. Hindman)
Escort: Company I, 3rd Alabama Cavalry (65 Men)
Hill's Corps (Lt. Gen. Daniel H. Hill)
Escort: Raum's Company Georgia Cavalry (51 men)
Cleburne's Division (Maj. Gen. Patrick R. Cleburne)
Escort: Sanders' Company Tennessee Cavalry (?)
Left Wing (Lt. Gen. James Longstreet)
Escort: Company A, 1st Louisiana Cavalry (30 men)
Buckner's Corps (Maj. Gen. Simon B. Buckner)
Escort: Clark's Company Tennessee Cavalry (20 men)
Stewart's Division (Maj. Gen. Alexander P. Stewart)
Escort: Foules' Company Mississippi Cavalry (35 men)
First Corps, Army of Northern Virginia (Maj. Gen. John Bell Hood)
Escort: Companies E and C, 1st Louisiana Cavalry (30 men)
Lee- This might be something we can put our heads together on...

Without a doubt I would love too see some of the 9th Ohio's fighting recreated, 2 charges and a bunch of fighting alongside Pap Thomas on the 2nd day. I'll be there 100% without a doubt.
"As the enemy slackened his fire, Colonel Kammerling, chafing like a wounded tiger that he had been behind at the opening, ordered his men to charge. Away they went, closely followed by the Eighty-seventh Indiana and the Seventeenth Ohio, the enemy falling back precipitately. The Ninth in this charge recaptured the guns of Guenther's battery, Fifth Artillery, and held them."
