Gents,
I was wondering if anyone could direct me to any vendor who sells authentic neck stocks for a U.S. Regular impression. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

You might want to try Dell's Leather Works. Well made stocks (most of our unit uses them). See http://www.dellsleatherworks.com/

Thanks a lot for the help Ed! I appreciate it. I'm trying to hammer down the final details for a U.S. Regular impression. Thanks again!

When you order it, I suggest you ask him to not put his makers stamp on it. Of the three originals that I have studied, none of them had maker stamps on them.
If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me off line and I will try to help if I can.

I have not seen a good repro neck stock--I'm not impressed with the Dell's version which does not have the correct curve to the stock and I'm suspicious of the cut shape (at least when compared to the two originals I've seen) which seems more like the earler lace-on patterns. It appears that Dells is using some sort of white leather. The originals I've seen have been made of 4-5 oz oak tanned leather. The only photo of a neck stock that you can Google on the web looks like it's been monkeyed with--notice the leather holding the japanned buckle as well as the billet that passes through the buckle--neither appears to be aged and are not cut or creased (edged) as were the originals.
I'm also looking for a good pattern--let me know if you turn up anything.

Since we lost the archived information from last year, I discussed my research of neck stocks based on the original I looked at at Ft Benning, GA at the Infantry Museum. It was crudely made very thin leather with a one inch blackened suspender buckle with a keeper to attach around the neck. They are quite easy to make an accurate reproduction as I make ours for our 1830's historical site Ft Foster near Tampa. Send me a PM and I can share the pattern I have. If you're in the mindset for a ready-made, Heritage Leathers makes a decent lined neck stock which is also correct for early and pre-CW use.

I second Mr. Block's post. Do what you can for research, then give Don Smith a call or e-mail. I'm sure I've seen him do a neck stock before for a friend of mine: http://www.trans-mississippi.com/
