I recently made myself a Kent, Payne and Company jacket ala the Courtney Jenkins type, and the image in EOG doesn't show the buttons well enough to illustrate the pattern. What did the KP&Co. buttons look like, and does anyone know where they may be had detached from a $300 jacket? It seems like a nitpicky detail, but the Federal buttons I put on to make the jacket serviceable are only so accurate.

Joel, it looks like plain style, of a very small size, but all sizes of small buttons would probably work. If I were you, I would get some plain buttons for it.

They are civilian ornamental buttons, very common on CS caps and coats. Greg Starbuck was offering excellent repros of various types and sizes of these "flower buttons." You may want to contact him at: cwkepi@earthlink.net <cwkepi@earthlink.net> to see if he still has any.

North Carolina state and Virginia buttons have been found with the Kent Payne backmark. Some clothing stores in Richmond would stock buttons with their backmark. E.M. Lewis is another example. This only went on as long as they could order the buttons from up north.

If you represent in either of these two states you can get some state seals and hope nobody looks at the back. If you want I can check whatever state you are representing to determine if any of that states buttons had the Kent Payne b/m.
