Dating 19th Century photos

I thought that some of y'all would appreciate this site that presents the work of William Darrah on dating 19th Century card-mounted photos such as Cartes de visite:

It has useful information on things like the thickness of the mounting card, tax stamps, etc.

According to an archivist I spoke with at the International Museum of Photography, while the presence of a tax stamp will place the image in a certain date range, the lack of a tax stamp may be meaningless - not all photographers worked to the letter of the law.
