I am putting together a song book so I can better learn the music (I tend to be a lazy muscian - I can remember the music but not the words). Can anyone suggest a good online source for Civil War period lyrics?

Probably the easiest way would be to search for common songs of the period (I believe specific songs have been discussed in length on earlier threads) by title and then check the date of the version to make sure it is appropriate. I've yet to find one single online source...perhaps someone else will have better information.

Google for it. I tried Civil War Song Lyrics and got 196,000 hits. Tried 5 at random from the first page and all of them had dozens of songs.

I find it best to copy lyrics from period sheet music. General folk music sites often have lyrics, but no provenance for them.
