Marmaduke's Raid II (or Son of Marmaduke's) will be April 4-7, 2013 so mark your calendars. The land is secured and Frank Aufmuth is putting the event together and should have an event website up within a couple of weeks.
I will be the overall Confederate commander and Eric Fair will be my worthy counterpart on the Federal side. If you are interested in raising a CS company please let me know. I cannot speak for Eric but I would assume he would be open to interested commanders getting in touch with him also. The event will also have a significant opportunity for civilian impressions and more will follow on that.
If you took part in the first one you know how good it was and if you didn't; well here's your chance.

My sentiments exactly Mr. Lloyd. I had given up all hope for a while there.
Now I just have to figure out if Im going CS or US.

There were some bad folks in Goose Creek Valley. If they are there next year, they'll probably be worse since time has a way of hardening folks feelings toward outsiders.

Edward,
Frank mentioned on FB that he is keeping the exact pinpoint location from everyone so that folks don't use GPS, Google Earth, Bing Maps, etc to cheat and get an understanding of the site before the event. The location is just outside of Piedmont, Missouri. Last time we went the exact directions/parking were emailed to all registered participants before the event.

From my trip out there last time going into St. Loius might be your best bet. Not much around the site, which is great. It was a nice drive down from St Louis as well.

Is this event the "4th" through the 7th or the "5th" through the 7th? Website says 5th, here says 4th. I remember last time we went "live" like thursday night, (although people were encouraged to trickle in... very realistic for the straggling and demands of the terrain.)
Just curious and thought I'd help clear up any confusion as folks will surely start hammering out travel/work and registering for which events are their style/want to attend.
I would say its the 4th through the 6th since the 7th is a Monday.....
pvt_jb
12-17-2012, 09:36 AM
For 2013 the 7th is a Sunday in April.
I did hear the event was running four days Thursday to Sunday, is this still the case?
Edit:
Just noticed the registration form states for civilians the event starts the 4th.

Civilians can gather and start on the 4th. Military will be needing to step off by mid-day on Friday and we'll wrap up mid-day on Sunday. That's the plan at this point according to my understanding.

Why not try asking the event organziers if you have a question about the authenticity of this jacket choice. If you are actually attending the event, a civilian coat will be fine for the CS forces. It is actually what I plan on bringinng to the event.

Thank you Tom! I hardly ever visit this site much so have missed the 411 on here.
There was evidently quite a bit of clothing Coming out of Little Rock at that time but the CS government had not mastered the logistics of equal distribution. It seems it was feast or famine and it appears there was lots of civilian clothing. See the guidelines.
Buck Walton describes himself as wearing a buckskin suit dyed with walnuts in the months before the raid. Regarding weapons, I think Marmaduke said it best describing his men:
of 5000 men 1,200 were unarmed and 900 had no horses. The rest were equipped with a mixture of shotguns and squirrel rifles brought from home, Enfield rifles, Mississippi Rifles, and old flintlocks that had been converted to percussion. And that's out of the O.R.

... And we will see you in Reinholz's Company in a couple of months Tom. Looks like four of us from Mess No. 1 will be falling in with you boys out west. Looking forward to the event.
Hey All
Just to echo the sentiments from above this event is going to be one of the immersion gems of this year. I would like to invite any individual who is seriously interested in staying in first person for an event to attend this event in my company. The Reinholz company (that is really not its name just the best idea I have right now) is currently made up of members of Mess #3, Ol'Sipley Mess, Hard Head Mess, Mess #1 and other assorted groups from the Midwest who are interested in portraying the brave men who kicked the Rebs out of Missouri.
We are portraying men of the 3rd Missouri State Militia Cavalry which had some companies that were dissmounted at the time of the "invasion" The guidelines allow a lot of us to do something different with our impression for this one. (no knapsacks, no bayonets or scabbards, smoothbore muskets) Dave Gerow from the Hard Head Mess has agreed to be orderly and the other duties will be assigned as we get closer to the event. If you have any questions don't be afraid to email or post here and I will try to get back to you soon. It has been a long winter already and everybody wants to get out and do something. Make your first event of the year the best immersion event of the year. (can't be proven by scientific method, just the opinion of somebody who went to the first one)
