Well folks, I am really excited to have the ability to participate in an immersion event like Burkittsville. This is my first one and just reading about everything that will happen is thrilling. Honestly, when I got into reenacting in the first place, that's what I imagined it to be- first person immersion where you're in the period for two straight days. Unfortunately, that's not how it was. Bummer.
Can someone tell me how I may get in contact with other participants?

Hopefully one of the organizers will be along soon with info on how to get in touch with others. There's usually a yahoo group set up for neighbors to get to know each other beforehand which will probably get going soon.

My wife and I will be there as the tailor and his wife. We've got no connection with the organization of the event, and are just participants like you, but if you want to discuss anything from a participant's point of view, feel free to send me an email.

Dear Rebecca:

As Hank says, one of the organizers will be along in a minute......Laura Harding recently stepped down as civilian coordinator of this event, and the Atlantic Guard Soldiers' Aid Society was asked to put together a civilian coordinating committee. Cheryl Parlati is the chair -- don't know if you two met up at Neshaminy or not, but a number of us, myself included are on the committee.

We're just getting our feet under us and will be contacting all those who are registered shortly. As Hank has mentioned, one of the developments of the past few years has been the organization of civilians months ahead of the event.

We're going to be setting up an email list for registered civilians pretty soon, and will have lots to share with you as the next few months unfold.

We're looking forward to it, and I"m sure you'll have a terrific time as well,

Sincerely,
Karin Timour

Since Laura Harding is no longer the chair, who should I mail the registration form to?

Dear Rebecca:

I know you're excited -- so are we!! Burkittsville is going to be a lot of fun. The civilian organizing committee has submitted our proposal to the event organizers and we'll be getting more information from them shortly. Civilian registration is still open, and Kathryn Coombs is going to be shortly putting together a website for those who are registered. Please keep in mind that this event is an individual registration one, and if you are not known to the committee, you'll need to send us a picture of you in period dress along with your registration.

In the immediate short term, perhaps it would be best to send your questions about civilian registration to the head of the civilian coordinating committee, Cheryl Parlatti. Her email is: cherry1860@cox.net

Hello!

I figured I should post this information in the thread too, since some folks may not have read my new post yet and they'll receive a notice about this post via email.

The Burkittsville event is STILL ON. Several members of the committee resigned in the late winter, but the event is still on and the committee had a meeting two weeks ago to get everyone on the same page.

The web site's administrator is taking a bit longer than expected to update the site, but listed below is the new contact information you need to know for the event.

Please note that the Burkittsville website has now been updated.

http://www.burkittsville1862.com

Registration is via Rob Westbrook (downloadable forms on the website), but civilians should contact the civilian coordinators first (Committee Chairman, Cheryl Parlati, email cherry1860@cox.net. As of this writing, there is still room.

For civilians who have already registered, there is a Yahoo Group. Contact either Cheryl or Stacy Hampton (see Stacy's post) who are the Yahoo Group administrators to get added once you're registered.

Does anyone have Rob Westbrook's email? I sent my check for Burkittsville in a few weeks ago and I want to know if he received it.
Thanks!

From the Burkittsville Committee:

In a meeting of the Planning Committee of the Engagement at Burkittsville on July 18, 2004, it was voted to postpone the event. Our tentative date is September 9-11, 2005. We have initiated a request to the Mayor and Town Council of Burkittsville for approval.

This decision was not lightly made.

We are in the process of returning registration checks/refunds. We will be sending out a registration form for the 2005 event once a date has been finalized. Please continue to watch the website and forums for updates.

The South Mountain State Battlefield will still be holding living history activities in the three battlefield gaps both Saturday and Sunday. Anyone interested in helping with those activities can check the event website or contact Al Preston at (301) 432-0452, email at apreston.dnr.state.md.us for additional information.

If you have any questions, please direct them to me at LSchumacher@mainecav.org. Your support of this event is greatly appreciated.
