Due to the responses to my preservation poll and encouraging emails from several supportive members, I decided to begin collecting money for the following organizations and causes:

Central Virginia Battlefield Trust - www.cvbt.org (http://www.cvbt.org/) - This regional preservation organization is an all volunteer group which purchases land in the Chancellorsville, Wilderness, Spotsylvania area of Virginia. They work closely with CWPT in obtaining matching grants from federal programs. They are currently trying to pay off a $25,000 debt on 16+ acres of land where Jackson's flank march took place was recently purchased.

Save the Franklin Battlefield - www.franklin-stfb.org (http://www.franklin-stfb.org/) A non-profit historical organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and promotion of Civil War Sites in Williamson County, Tennessee. They also work directly with CWPT in gaining political backing and matching monies to purchase land at this very endangered area.

If you would like to make a donation to either of these organization through the A/C preservation project, please send your check, made out to one of the organizations above to:

Authentic Campaigner Preservation Project
c/o Mike "Dusty" Chapman
5734 N. 15th Street
Arlington, VA 22205

Paypal now available. Send payments to dustyswb@comcast.net (dustyswb@comcast.net). Please place "CVBT" or "STFB" in a memo line when donating this way.

I will list your name as part of the project and where your money went to. I will have a running total of the monies collected for each organization on this thread. Time is short on the Chancellorsville effort in order to get a matching federal grant, so your support is needed now.

Once the checks are collected and sent in, you will receive a letter from the organization for tax purposes. I will announce when the checks are turned in so you know to look for it on your bank statements.

Thank you all for your support and let's start saving that change.....

If you have any questions, please send to dustyswb@comcast.net (dustyswb@comcast.net)

Ley et al,

I have taken steps to create a Paypal account to send payments. I will let everyone know when they can use that option later this week.

Thanks

Dusty-
This sounds like a great project! Regardless of the amounts donated, they will be much appreciated by these organizations. I've thought of a couple questions...

What is the time line for this project? With time being short on the Chancellorsville effort, will the project continue afterwards even?

Is there a possible way to become members of these organizations through the Authentic Campaigner Preservation Project? I was thinking of what I may be able to donate and the thought occured to me that I might consider becoming a member. It would be nice to send them some new members too.
Annual Member dues for the Central Virginia Battlefield Trust is $35.
Save the Franklin Battlefield annual dues is $20 (for indivdual.)
Is there a way this can happen?

Matthew,

I haven't contacted these organizations about what we're trying to do. They will be surprised when the checks arrive.

I hope that this project will encourage people to look at these smaller, localized groups as something that they can volunteer with or join. But nothing has been set up with them ahead of time.

Definitely something to look into in the future.

As to the time limit, I hope to make this an annual event, with a new cause each year. I want people to be able to give several times a year to this project. Monthly checks would be great if people can add it into their monthly expense budgets. Being a member of the CWPT, I receive the emails and magazine, as well as the requests for money, so we will have a source for new causes.

The Chancellorsville project will be paid off in the near future, I'm sure. But CVBT has many other properties in the works, so our money will go to a good place. STFB is the same way. They need money in case something comes up quick on the radar.

Either way, our money goes to purchasing battlefield land.

Please send payments to dustyswb@comcast.net.

Please put "CVBT" or "STFB" in a memo line if using this option.

Thanks in advance.
