The Federal forces posted an aggregate strength of 189 on Saturday and -- despite the rain -- 168 on Sunday.

Schapps,
???????
We had over 900 participants signed in, and the forces did not look that lopsided....I know we (CS) had over 450 on the field Sat and about the same on sunday...could it be that some did not turn in the proper paperwork...
I will check on the registration numbers, but that seems a lot low...

It appeared that the ratio was about correct or 2:1. The artillery was in the correct proportion for the size of the field also. Although the emplacement of artillery on Sunday could have been better, it was a real stretch to see anything like Ft Stevens in the location. Saturday's fight was good, but the artillery (we discussed this) should have retreated, fired, retreated, fired until we were off the field. Problem was our crews were not full-up so it made it hard to do.

Pards,
Several explanations suggest themselves. The numbers I gave reflect the results of roll calls each morning; anyone showing up after 8 am would not make the day's returns. I asked the officers at the Friday evening meeting at Federal HQ to return those they expected to show, but who had not yet arrived, as "Absent" on "Detached Service." The numbers thus reported would bring Saturday's total to 240, but I do not know how many of them actually came, so I went with the more conservative number.
Also, the reports did not cover some 50 civilians who registered as Federal.
For what it's worth, the number of Federal infantry who did show made for three respectably-sized maneuver units and, from what I could see, looked pretty nicely scaled to the field.
Overall, it was a beautiful event, Chris. I hope to have the next "Clerk's AAR" out this week or early next.
