Greetings all,

By posting this thread, I'm just curious to find out how many authentic striving ACW reenactors from Europe, visits and/or are a member of this fine forum. (I know I'm one)

Hallo Kamerad!

Just in the interest of discussion, would you consider "qualifying" or perhaps further describing how you are looking to quantify and qualify, or at least possibly define:

"authentic striving ACW reenactors"

Not be critical, or negative, but I think it would be interesting to:

1. Define the Concept, and then
2. Compare and Contrast (not that too many have, or can actually do that in the States... ;-) :-) )

A moment's pause while I put on the Moderator Hat, please...

No Flame Bait and Flame Wars please.

Legitimate, mature, and scholarly discussion only.

I know we have more then a few members from "across the pond". Some members of the Lazy Jacks and quite a few other sundry characters. I'm sure they'll chime in their own bloody selves. :tounge_sm

Hehe, dont get many opportunities to pick on our Brit-friends.

Sirs,

By my posting, I should have been more precise.

Striving was a perhaps too unwise a choice of word. Since reeacting for me is a timeconsuming progress, where I strive to obtain the highest level of authenticity, I am merely trying to get a picture of how many others in Europe are as devoted to this subject as myself, and who visits the Forum on a regular basis. This in order to establish perhaps a contact at future events in Europe, and to use this unbearignly important forum as an exchange of information.

A qualifying description, would be that of person who walks the extra mile and pays the extra buck to buy goods from the proper vendors and who has more than common knowledge about certain aspects of the WBTS. Persons who live out the (present day) Civil War, according to the standards set by Authentic Campaigners in the States.

I'm basically just curious to know how many european reeactors that fits in to the above description, uses this Forum.

I hope this clarifies, and doesn't murk up things. :D

With best regards,

As far as I know, I might be the only progressive reenactor in Sweden.
I am always trying to improve my Confederate infantryman impression and make it as authentic as my economy allows.

Sincerely,

Dear Sirs,
As a member of the Lazy Jack Mess [www.lazyjacks.org.uk] I can assure you that many of my chums are frequent visitors to this excellent site. Whenever possible we attempt to participate in appropriate US events; 5 of us attended the recent Mansfield event as guests of the 15th Texas and 8 of us are scheduled to come over for Franklin which we are looking forward to with huge enthusiasm. So I guess in terms of travelling the extra mile [or thousands thereof] we may just qualify. Certainly, our commitment to the elusive goal of authenticity in all repects, is second to none as a review of our web site will, I hope, illustrate.
With kind regards to all,
Patrick Reardon

Well Christian,
I am from Germany and some of your fellows have just been to our Reenactment in Wildflecken last weekend.
We pards of the A company 17th Missouri are reenacting in the progressive style and are trying to improve .
As for vendors in Europe have a look at www.lederarsenal.com.
I have told every pard of my company about the AC forum and some are frequent participants.

Probably, now, I suppose I am the one and only member of the forum from France but by the past, another friend of mine was member.
I had starting the cw reenacting in 1990 and had going in the USA for two reenactments and a third time to visiting the most important battlefields.
My wife is also a reenactor and we meet each others at cw reenactment !

In my country, we are between 20 and 30 ACW reenactors, north and South, but mostly are mainstreamers even if some of these are not so bad campaigners.
We are, for now, only three or four to be on the progressive/hardcore way but we have no hardcore unit and we need to go on field with others French mainstreamers reenactors or several good foreigners units like the Lazy Jacks from England or the 5th Va from Germany.
