Has anyone tried going out with 2 Groundcloths instead of 1 Blanket and 1 groundcloth? If so how did it go? I would think this would be fairly common, but can't find any references to it.
I ask because my groundcloths hold warmth very well, and also have the advantage of being waterproof.

Chris: I know a lot of the cavalry guys I ride with (myself included) bring two clothes (standard issue was two, I believe). One to cover you and one for the saddle (just can't fit both under one cloth). I have found that the combination of the cloth to keep the moisture out, and the wool blanket to insulate is the best. That thin drill of the cloth is great to keep things dry, but not nearly the insulating value of a wool blanket. One of each, like a taco, works best. My two cents.

I forgot to add that spooning is an option. I tried the 2 groundcloth thing at an event in may. Worked great, stayed dry and warm.

I dig you, Chris. I am just a little funny about that spooning business. Lots of great guys in this hobby. But...just can't do it. Rather shivver a little. Then again, there is always my horse!?! And a did remember hearing something about George Custer ( I am sure that was just a rumor though!)

Chris,
if are thinking of doing this at Perryville the ground dampness will come through the bottom cloth. It will be cold there in the evenings and early morning. Bring your blanket.

P.S. Do you want to join the mess at Spotsilvania 2007? We'd be honored to have you with us.

I think using two Ground cloths at Walker would work. Great to hear you'll get back to us about Spotsilvania. You have a great impression and this will be the right event to show it off. Did you check out my album? They're all original pic's. There's a confederate trooper there.
