How can I change my avatar? The forum is using my 2004 one.

Mr Billingsley, click on the USER CP link in the top navigation bar. Down the left side, there's a tool bar, and one of the options is "Edit Avatar." You can upload a more current version.

Just for the record: avatars should be images of the actual forum member, in good historic clothing and accessories.

Doesn't work for me. I don't get any options except "Do not use an avatar" and "Guest". I also don't get any chance to upload a photo to my profile as previously. Any progress on getting all those old threads back? I miss my old info...

I had the same problem as Bob. It's always tough to start over from scratch.

I could be wrong, but I believe that your status must be "Rank and File" (10 posts or more) before you get that option. If your status is "Recruit" (less than 10 posts) you have to wait.

I've found the same problem, my avatar has disapeared and the CP says I can only use 50x50 pix. This problem was solve previously by Eric.
Also I dont appear on the membership list! but I am loged inon the home page.
I sure you wil fix it..and if it don't work use a bigger hammer.

My avatar went away when my account was lost in the crash. Last time someone (one of the moderators, not certain which one though) helped me out by fixing my avatar.

I do more reading than posting, so I don't want to post 10 non-essential posts just to get to the point I can fix my avatar.

Guys, it's okay to not have a picture, too. I've not had one for going on something like 6 years. :)

I have also wondered what "Recruit" and "Rank and File" ment.

A recruit is a new user to the forum. They have some posting limitations and all post are monitored. Once a recruit has posted at least 10 times (I believe that is the correct number but I could be wrong) and not recieved any warnings, then they become rank & file members. Rank & File have no posting restrictions thought they are expected to follow the Forum rules.

Of course right now due to the crash we have a large number of recruits. I have been working to manually switch those for long time posters that have had to re-register.

I was one who had to re-register, but I did not have many posts before.

True, avatars are not essential but it is nice to put a face with a name. :)

I have a problem, I'm over 10 posts and I'm still a recruit.

EDIT:Never mind for some reason this post made me rank and file.

Tripp - could you add my name to this list? It would be folly to post just for
the sake of posting 10 times, and I would enjoy being rank and file again. I
am often accused of being rank, specially on the hot days!
On another note, I finally (after being run around some and told Amazon was
out of these) got my copy of "The Biographical Roster of the Immortal 600" -
I am studying up on the more mature prisoners now, and will send you the
gentleman I wish to honor soon. Until then, I remain

Hey Derrick,

Completely off the subject:sarcastic but does your unit portray the 51st Alabama [Partisan Rangers] under Forrest and then Wheeler? I have a cool tintype of a private in full uniform I will post soon. I had it posted before, but the crash deleted it I guess.:D

Thanks,

Hey Fellas,

I don't think you have to be rank and file members to have an avatar:eek: . Just send Mr. Eric Tipton and email with you mugshot and he'll git'r up.

Have fun!:D

My avatar disappeared also. I agree with others that a face to the name is nice, and I prefer to see a picture of the real person, rather than some canned avatar. For those who do not like their picture out there, that is fine, too.
Perhaps we need to re-think the 10 post minimum since the crash.

I already know the joke reply. A bag with a big $ on it over my head for an avatar.

Edit: This will not be permitted. Your posts are merged, your avatar has been deleted and you still need 10 posts. Whether you make it that far is up to you.

All right, to end this barrage of posts, my offer is open again to create an avatar for you if you want one.

If you would like an avatar, please e-mail me a photo of you in your best period clothing - preferrably with an historic structure, nature, or in other words, period setting. The larger the image, the easier it is for me to give you a quality result. Fuzzy images will look fuzzy on your avatar no matter what I do to photoshop it.

E-Mail the images to me at etinohio@msn.com (etinohio@msn.com).

Send 'em along. I still have most of the ones I did prior to the big crash, so just check in.

The improved logo for that activity is now a green circle with a white dollar symbol. Other logos include a circle slash over a bulldozer for the ACPP, and some other happy graphics. :D

I was also trying to get my old avatar back, and I am sooooo computer illiterate, so I am glad to see that it is the format of the forum, and not me. I also could not log in under my old name. Oh well, I am glad the forum is back up and running.....

Eric-

Attached is my photograph I'd like to use as my avatar on Authentic Campaigner. My ID is Johnny Lloyd. I am a member of Palmetto Battalion/Company G- Hampton Legion.

Can't seem to get a good font for my signature either. If you could get a period-looking font for my signature "Jno. Lloyd" that would be great also.

Thanks for your help in advance- Johnny Lloyd

Eric,
I had an avatar before, but now I can't even add one. My posting total disappeared with the crash. I am guessing that I just have to wait again until I have ten postings again before I add one.

What if you're just getting started, and don't have any period clothing yet? Heck, I'm still trying to find a group in my area to join (Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan). I know someone who used to be part of an artillery group, but that group dissolved a few years ago. So, what's a guy like me to do?

Richard,

You just have to wait until you have everything together for the photo. Not having an avatar is not a life threatening situation. I have been on this forum since around the time it started and I have yet to post an avatar.
