How many campaigners on this forum are involved with an artillery battery that uses a bugler to convey commands? Is there a resource I can go too for authentic, CW era artillery calls?

I ask as the contact info for R.J.Samp seems to be wrong (and it's two years old) and I don't find any of his tapes on any of the Sutler sites I've seen yet.
I recently joined up with a battery and all I can find so far are bugle calls (artillery) going back to the late 1800's.

Thanks for the help...

Bill,

You probably want to get yourself of copy of Instruction for field artillery. Prepared by a board of artillery officers [consisting of Captain Wm. H. French, Captain Wm. F. Barry, Captain H. J. Hunt]

Reprints are fairly accessible. Besides having most of the calls listed, it is the standard manual for field artillery. Anybody serving in the artillery should become familiar with it.

You can also find the 1860 edition online at http://name.umdl.umich.edu/AJR6616.0001.001

Hi Bill,

most of the bugling folks seem to hang out at the Yahoo 'bugle' group. Mostly ACW discussions, but other eras as well.

Hope this helps.

Bill,
Did you ever get hooked up with the bugle group?

Hi Pat,
No, I haven't hooked up with the Yahoo group yet. I had a busy weekend so I'll head over there and check things out tonight.

And many thanks to the poster who gave the link to the Instruction for Field Artillery. That was exactly the resource I needed. Many thanks!

Andrews Mounted Artillery Drill is the southern version but it's missing the last three bugle calls (they are the same as Hunts)

That should get you to the bugle group. There is more info available there than you could ever want.
