Just for the record I used the search function and I found nothing.

I'm looking into defarbing my euroarms 2-band Enfield. I've heard you can buy kits to defarb muskets yourself but I've been unable to locate anyone that offers one for a 2-bander. I'd prefer to do it myself with a kit to save on money.

can anyone help me?

Hmm -- there's a 2-band Enfield at our state museum that was used at Shiloh. Cursury exam implies to my aging eyes that it is so similar to the 3-band model that you would simply follow the advice given often on this forum re how to improve the markings, finish and shape of the stock, screw washers, hammer, lock plate and sling hardware. Brother Schmidt has provided an excellent post re bluing the barrel if you want to replicate the look of the aforementioned Enfield in our museum -- carried by a Sgt. in the !st Nebraska VI so, no, this one "apparently" wasn't polished.
Good luck.

You should start by reading the following:
http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/1864/enf/enfauth.htm

I have a two band enfield P58 made by euroarms which came somewhat defarbed. There are some things that are easy and some that are hard to do. Stamping proof marks in the barrel is hard and the correct stamps are needed. Removing modern markings on the barrel is also hard and then you need to reblue the barrel. Stamping the stock is easy but again it is hard to find the correct stamps. Not stamping the stock at all is the answer to that problem and that would be more correct than a bad stamp or a stamp in the wrong place. Reshaping the stock is also hard and then you will need to refinish. The lock plate is incorrect as well as the barrel bands. The easy part is replacing the rear sling swivel.

Then you still have a P58 naval model and not the P56 army model.

Send me a PM with what you want to do and I may be able to help you avoid some of the problems I have encountered. I also may have some pictures that could be of use.

I had planned to pick up an Armi Sport 2 bander... discovered just what would be involved in defarbing it and came to the conclusion that it wouldn't be worth the time & effort to end up w/ the naval model... a model not heavily used by either side... heck it's issue appears to have been quite sparse.

On some serious looks at an original I decided i couldn't do justic w/ the Armi Sport w/out basically redoing the whole arm from start to finish. Decided to forgoe the whole project altogether for a Colt modified Model M1841. Cost me about $750 start to fin w/ the correct sight & bayonet.

I was looking at at least doubling the purchase price of the 2 Band Enfield to fix it. Not sure if it would have been worth it.

Got out yesterday for the first time in a couple of coons' ages and did some living history (Mex War, for that matter) at one of the local museums, and when I got back home th ePost Office Lady had brought me a copy of one of The Watchdog's new publications, The Civil War Musket: A Handbook for Historical Accuracy, -- Lock, Stock and Barrel. After reading Mr. Walden's website, hie thyself on over to http://www.watchdogreview.com and put in an order for this book, which condenses a whole bunch of good advice into a useful and easily readable format. Even had a section on my new M1841 which the Post Office Lady hasn't come across with yet...

Don't we wish we could elminate the use of the term "2-bander."

On a positive note, the Watchdog's publications appear to be gaining speed. Bully for them! I'm looking forward to the CRRC-2 filling my mailbox come early 2007.
