Pards,
Sorry to take up space with this question, but I just need to know.
I'm looking into purchasing some of Mr. Tarts 'saxxon blue' Jeancloth for a project. Has anyone had expirience with the fading of this fabric? If so, how will it fade out? Also, I'm wondering how closely the actual fabric's color is to the picture posted on the website? I know the internet photos can screw up the coloring on some things.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Merry Christmas,

Give Ben a call, I bet he'll be happy to answer your questions. Would probably also send you a swatch.

Mr. Lawson,
Ben would have to tell you about the fading properties of the Saxon Blue, but I can say that the swatch he sent me compares favorably with the pic on the web. Some of the swatch colors he has posted on the web cannot be trusted, but the Saxon Blue is pretty right on to what will arrive at your door. Hope that helps, Garrett

Lawson-
I cannot attest to it's fading over time, but I do have a swatch I would be glad to let you examine and make your own call. Very nice stuff, just as all of Ben's cloth.

Mr. Lawson,
Dan and I have worked with Ben's saxon blue cloth and I have run fading tests on it. The color when new is an incredible, vibrant blue...almost an "electric" blue....but after exposure to the sun and elements it will fade to a washed-out pale blue-green color.
We had a large length of this cloth in stock for some time and no one seemed at all interested in purchasing it. However, research has proved that the Confederacy (and even some northern state manufactories) did use yarn or piece-dyed mineral-dyed sky blue goods. Extant garments made from this sort of cloth seem to be exceedingly rare but I have seen several original U.S. frock coats with trim dyed in a very similar manner. One contract frock made by the firm of Devlin & Co. featured wool cord trim that was almost white with a very faint blue-green hue; parts of the same trim that were concealed inside the collar remained a vibrant sky blue color.
I may be able to hunt up a scrap of Ben's old Saxon Blue jean for you. If I find some to send you I will let you know.

Dooley, er I mean Jay,
I will give you a call and see if you can bring some to the party.
Mr. White,
Thanks for the info provided. It's exactly what I was looking for. As Jay and I live close, I will link up with him for the swatch. Thank you for the generous offer though.
Mods, you may do what you wish with this thread, as I now have the info I was looking for.
