Gentlemen,

Our comrades on the other side of the field have asked that we bring a few (authentic to the scenario) trade items. It looks as though the Federals have been doing some research, and turned up some incidents were the two sides engaged in trading items on occasion.

I am personally not educated on such incidents, but if any of you have read of such, please share with us, what kinds of items the Confederates may have had to offer for trade.

Thanks

I'm glad you guys are all looking forward to the event, see you all in a few weeks. Most of you may know alcohol is prohibited on NPS property. Texans or Coon asses also apply to that rule. I was hoping most would come to the conclusion about trading by reading up on the area and putting that into their impression on their own, but thanks Mr. Hicks for bringing that up. Anyone who has missed researching this campaign and is just doing the usual "show up" really is cutting themselves short. Heck my girlfriend has researched the campaign and she's not even going! Also I was hoping that you guys would take the jabs and jokes off forum and leave the event folder to, oh I don't know, announcements about the event.

Dusty-

The classic uniform and description that I know about Georgians at Vicksburg comes from "Federals on the Frontier":

"At 4 pm the 94th Ill. charged a rifle pit capturing a rebel Liuet. and seven men....they belong to the 42nd Georgia....Their clothes were regular Confederate army regulation butternut and at the north would be taken for common farm or field hands."

I guess we can start another thread with "what color was butternutt" -Let's not go there.

Joe,
Surely someplace near your house you can located a Columbus Depot to compare your reproduction one with :tounge_sm

Dusty,

"Is there anymore on the clothing that the 20th Alabama wore besides the genenics posted?
May we assume then they wore typical 1863 dress then which was a hodge podge of mis matched uniforms? Meaning they drew their uniforms one piece at at time with pants not matching jackets in color and contrast?
We are getting close to the event and would like some further guidence? In no means am I trying to be a smart butt or anything, just would like to know If anyone outthere has dug anything else up? "

Everything I have found that mentions clothing for Confederate Troops was dated November 62 and states blue trousers, gray jackets with collar and cuffs and caps. Have not been able to get any siege information or even anything other than what Joe describes.

Ok,

We will keep this thread on topic. If anyone wants to discuss what Craddock's Company will or will not be doing at the event - feel free. However, I can tell you that EVERYONE is expected to SOLDIER at the event. I do not have a schedule and do not expect one before the event. We (all of us from the Captain down) WILL do what our hosts expect and ask of us, and we WILL do it in a proficient, historic, and respectful manner for the ground we will be on.

Friendly, light, and/or personal banter aside, let's focus on the event. If anyone has something of SPECIFIC historic relevance to the 20th Alabama and their time in the trenches at Vicksburg, PLEASE feel free to add it here. If not then keep it off this thread or any other relating to the Vicksburg event.

This event WILL be one to remember. It WILL be like NO OTHER event you've ever attended on National Park Property. Let's focus on what we can do to make it the best experience for EVERYONE in our company - not just ourselves, our mess mates, or members of our individual units.

Lowery discusses camp life in general, focusing on
supplies, weather, social life, and visiting family and
the troops; the movement into Kentucky and evaluation of
the secession sentiment there; Lincoln's Emancipation
Proclamation; and the movement towards and skirmishes
around Vicksburg (Miss.).
