I would like to ask a question about a fort in Georgetown, SC. Maybe ten or more years ago, I read an article in the Sun News (Myrtle Beach) about an Eagle Scout project that featured the clearing and restoration of a fort on the north of Winyaw (sp) Bay. Recently, I have been searching for this fort's location, but nobody can recall the story. Even searching through the Sun News turned up nothing. Not having a date, I am not able to spend the required time searching microfiche to find the original story. Does any of the SC members recall this story and perhaps remember the date? or better yet know of the fort's location?
Thanks,
Brian T. McGarrahan

Are you referring to Battery White on Belle Island? (Winyah Bay)

No, that fort is well documented and accessible. This fort probably is on the Belle Baruch Preserve.

Brian,
If this was an Eagle Scout Project that got approved by the unit and council, you might want to contact them. I know that when I was in the process of getting my Eagle Scout Award many moons ago, my council kept copies of the project on file. I do know that I had to work with the town to restore a cemetry from the early 1800's in Maine. They too kept very good records of all work I had did.
Hope that helps.

Perhaps you should ask them and not us. http://www.hobcawbarony.org/

Perhaps I did contact them. Perhaps I have exhausted all of my resources and was wondering if anyone remembers the story in the paper or another around the state. Perhaps, I am just looking for a little tidbit of information that could put me in a better direction to locate either the story or the fort itself. I can find the thing off the water if I have a better idea where to look. Winyah Bay is quite a large place in a small boat.
