I wanted to share with everyone an incredible free resource for books and manuals with expired copyrights. Books.google.com is a virtual treasure trove. So far I have located numerous cavalry manuals, infantry drill manuals a copy of the Ordinance Manual from 1850.
I strongly urge everyone to check it out.

Though not a "free" source, the following are also good:

Let's not forget you can also read “Si Klegg” via Google books, a scanned edition, with all the great illustrations I might add for free for those who have never read it, but I am sure that’s no one on this forum.

Your may also want to try this link as well:

Project Gutenberg is a great online resource for books that fall under public domain. The main focus of the project is to get these works available to the public. You can access the books in text form online for free by searching, just one example that can be found via the project is the often sighted "Co Aytch".
