I had no clue where else to post this, but I felt that this was the most appropriate place.

I work for an antebellum historic site, and I had a visitor this morning who asked me if I was familiar with the fiction book series describing events that took place in a world where the South had won the war. I am not familiar with this series of novels, but I have heard of them previously.

Is anyone familiar with this series of novels? Can anyone point me to a website that contains more information about them, their titles, and their author? I would like to read some of them, as the topic is peculiarly of interest to me.

I appreciate the information, as it comes in.

Thank you

I think it's a series by Harry Turtledove, author of "Guns of the South" - the Civil War classic (:tounge_sm ) where a guy from the future goes back in time to give the South a bunch of AK-47s, and pandemonium ensues. I actually haven't read the book yet, but I'm due for a good laugh, so I should.

There's another bizarro series where a Civil War unit gets sucked up into a space-time vortex and is transported to a far off planet where they fight monsters. I stumbled onto it while searching for Band of Brothers stuff on e-bay, as the series is called also Band of Brothers. I think I laughed for about 10 minutes while reading the back covers of them. I forget who wrote them, but I saved the images. They're somewhere on this computer (way too much junk saved), and I can find them later if you really want.

There was a book published, during the sixties I believe, based upon the fictional premise that the South had won the war. Do not remember the title, but it should be easy to find through the internet.

That may very well be "If the South Had Won the Civil War" by Mckinlay Kantor. It's actually a pretty good read if you want to engage in a little supposition and 'what if' playing. Kantor has the fate of the war hinging on some small things instead of huge battles etc. I found it to be interesting.

There is also a set of three books of alternate history by Newt Gingrich and William Forstchen: "Gettysburg", "Never Call Retreat", and "Grant Comes East". I haven't read them so I do not know if the South wins in them but they are an alternate history that is probably not as outlandish as Harry Turtledove.
