I recently acquired an original silk dress. I strongly believe that it started its life out as a wrapper and the skirt was sewn up in 1865 and re-used for every-day wear.
I also have the opportunity to study this dress in depth for a research paper in an American Material Culture class that I am taking now. I need to compare the inside of that sewn up front seam with the inside front seam of a regular dress to see how the construction differs. Yet, of 7000 photos I have of original dresses, I can't find any showing that seam! Does anyone have a picture, or better yet, an original silk dress that shows that seam construction from the lining?
I would be very greatful if someone could take a picture for me! I would, of course, credit your contribution in my paper!
