Great images of a beautifully crafted and unusual sewing notion.
“Antique Figural Pin Poppet
English - Circa 1800
This beautifully carved pin holder is a very early one. It's carved of a light wood and it's in the shape of a little pear. The top unscrews to reveal a red silk cushion where the pins were stuck. The pins would be covered by the top and this way it could be dropped into a workbag and not snag other items. It's in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage. The silk cushion is original and intact. It measures almost 2 1/4" long and was bought in England. It screws together perfectly. One like this is shown on p. 95 of Nerylla Taunton's book Antique Needlework Tools”
